Un Alagai Kaniyargal from Uthama Puthiran (1958)

I am back. After the hiatus. The Deepavali hullabaloo has muffled. But, it was a great week. A great, great week, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Yesterday - we went for a movie. A family outing, actually. To watch, of all movies, the Vijay starer, Velayutham. I do not have anything to comment on it, except, "Abbbaaaaaa ...... hdjhsdedbnd skksjdjhadhadak;lckas;ckl;akclkclakcv cxftxclaks; ......" if you know what I mean.....
So, pass Velayutham. Lets talk about something more refreshing.
The last day of Kantha Sasthi tomorrow. Amma and I are planning to cook up a feast. A wholesome vegetarian spread. The fridge is brimming with leafy and greeny stuff. I have already browsed through a few vegan cookbooks for ideas. Managed to peek at a few food blogs, as well. It will be for family, extended family and a few special invites. I feel driven - already. Cooking is something that I love to do. And, of lately, gardening. Both, alleviate the senses.
This is a classic number from the 1958 Uthama Puthiran. It was filmed at the famous Brindavanam Gardens in Mysore.Such a beautiful and happy number. Give it a try.....

Iragai Poley Alaikireney from Naan Mahan Alla

I am not to keen on riding the two wheeler - better known as the motorcycle. Neither, do I like sitting at the back - being pillion. I have this phobia - Motorcylophobia. Thanks to an uncalled for minor accident while I was still in school. Motorcycle rides make me extra nervous and over cautious.
There are very few people who I believe would carry me well, on one. Except, for my late father, my elder brother. And, Mogan. Only three of them. The only three who make me feel safe - on a two wheeler. I have never ridden with anyone else and do not think I ever will.
This particular song reminds me of how breezy, momentous and romantic, a motorcycle ride can actually be. When it is with someone, who you know deep in your heart, will take good care of you, no matter what.
Forty minutes from Deepavali 2011.
May each and everyone of us be blessed, by the Almigty.....
Happy Deepavali folks !!!!!

This one is for Mogan.....

Chillax from Velayutham (2011)

Love Horoscope: Scorpio - MONDAY, OCT 24, 2011
The energy of the day may encourage a distinct lack of confidence concerning your ability to find true love. There is no reason to fear. You have so much talent, and are eminently desirable, but nevertheless, something seems to be getting to you. If you going out on a date tonight, then push these nebulous fears aside. Go get ready and just enjoy yourself. It will be fine - honest!
~excerpts from horoscope.com~
Today is rated 7-Star. Like the Burj Al-Arab in Dubai.
It was fine. Super, super, super duper fine. That is all I can say. The silly, coy and frisky smile is still attached securely on my face. Blame it on the festive season. Charge it on the long leave. Frame it on the date.
I am no fan of the 'kuthu' song genre. Except, for the mind blowing 'Otha Sollaley' from Aadukalam. This is one more. And instant fondness swamped me when I listened to it, for the first time - this late evening - when my brother was driving me back home.
Okay - accepted. The lyrics are not too virtuous. Enticing. Provocative. But - definitely apt. Apt to ? My current situation.
He IS a "naatu kattey", a "town kattey", a "rendum serntha semma kattey"..... He is. Really. He has eyes that melt me at a rate of 94.8 pounds per second period..... And, a smile that warms my as cold as Vostok, Antarctica heart....
Deepavali is just a day plus plus away. The festivity feel just got started.
Cheers everyone !!!!!

Nenjil Kudiyirukkum from Irumbu Thirai

It has been a very busy week. With beautiful sweet nothings evolving.
I heard this wonderful old song on TV this morning. Liked the lyrics and the melody. A keeper. One that reminded me of him, right away.....
Deepavali is just a couple of days away.
Signing off with an interesting fact about Deepavali.
Diwali is celebrated for a period of 5 days. Each days has it’s own significance, rituals and myths. The third day is celebrated as the main Diwali festival, and is known as the “festival of lights”. The five days of Diwali are Dhanteras, Narak Chaturdashi, Deepawali, Govardhan and Bhaidooj.
“Shubh Deepavali” is a customary greeting associated with Diwali, which literally means “Have an auspicious Diwali”.
So, to all my fellow Hindus - Shubh Deepavali !!!

Enathuyire Enathuyire from Bheema

One of my all time favourite videos. And, song, too. Romantically ideal. Charming and dreamy. I have only watched three of Vikram's movie to date. This, Kaasi and Raavanan. Nothing else. Seriously. I do not know, why the no-watch. He is a great actor, no doubt. I was astounded with his performance in Raavanan. But, my hype to watch his movies are hollow. I am always startled when people talk to me about Kandaswamy and Anniyan. I skipped both and do not have the slightest idea what the story line is. Not because of Vikram. But due to the fact that fiction has never been my preference.
A Malagasy Proverb says this, "Let your love be like the misty rains, coming softly, but flooding the river....." I so, agree. Love must flood you - with more, love. For love, heals - even the most battered heart.....

Naan Kanden fron Muran

Yet again. As promised on the first day of this week - it is all about good songs and equally great video narrations. This is also a new one. I want to watch it. Want. But, there are hiccups, as you know. A cinema that shows this particular movie, a friend who would love to tag along with me, time, day etc etc etc. Plenty of reasons. Read though, on Behindwoods, that is has been receiving great response in India. A thriller , with a twist? I do not know. Will keep you all updated, when I have. Cheran, has gone into spine chillers in recent times. Yutham Sei,being his first.
Nice - that the director did not choose to shoot in some exotic background with some weird dance moves - but, instead opted for candid and forthright events between the couple. That is, so, today.....
Wednesday, already. The one that comes next week, will be Deepavali. Counting days to celebrate my favourite festival despite the loads of work that are yet to be done.
Feliz estancia. This is Spanish, and it means Stay Happy !!!!

Enna Thandthiduven from Sathurangam (2011)

This is what I have chosen for Tuesday. Something that I fell instantly for - after watching Sun Music's Puthu Paadal that came on air at 1.30pm, Malaysian time last Sunday.
(semma sweet, right ?????)
Then, for the entire video. The chemistry, the beautiful moments and sweet nothings they share. All done, tastefully and prudently.
Enjoy..... Take care & God Bless.....

Maasamaa Aaru Maasamaa From Engeyum Eppothum

Monday is back. The weekend bade good bye in a blink - thanks to two super busy days. The first, being an entire day of shopping, and the second, of spring cleaning.
This week is about great melodies, prodigious lyrics and towering video narrations. I have this 'thing' for mind blowing lyrics.Especially, when they come with equally heart rending anecdotes.
I have watched Engeyum Eppothum. A good one. I would rate it 8/10. This movie does not come with laces and ruffles - mind you. A simple and worthwhile film - that comes with handful of positive messages. This is a must watch if you are someone who has zeal for good Tamil movies.
This song has fascinating lyrics - thanks to Na. Muthukumar. Something like no other new Tamil song. Special mention also goes to Satya's feelings filled rendition and that cleverly choreographed dance moves. Superrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........ is all I have to say.

Thendral Urangiya Bothum from Petra Maganai Vitta Annai

An older sister is a friend and defender - a listener, conspirator, a counsellor and a sharer of delights. And sorrows too.....
Penang's Free Shuttle & The Star Cruise docked at the pier.

Shopping with my sister has always been awesome. The same, today. My sister, is an Aries. She talks little - unlike me - and exceptional of me and mum. The whole ride to the island and fro, was spent catching up on this' and that's. Sisterhood - so powerful. So, refreshing.
RM7.00 for entering the island. 1km from my SP.
I have settled my Deepavali shopping. 80%. Only 80% ? How about the remaining 20% ? That - as you know - will never end, until Deepavali day, and the few days after. Women. Do we ever stop shopping ? No. Never. Shopping is a form of excellent therapy - for us, females.
I also had a gastronomical treat, the whole day through. All healthily, vegetarian. All, Indian.
Breakfast - Indian styled fried Bee Hoon served with a spicy gravy and a cup of Iced Milo.
Lunch - White fluffy rice with steamed potatoes, long beans with tofu, ladies finger cooked in curry, beet root, mashed tofu and peas, papadams, rasam, tamarind curry and dhal curry, with Iced Lime Juice served in an ever silver tumbler.
Tea - A round samosa, a sweet green coloured Indian delicacy and my favourite cup of Madras Coffee @ Filter Coffee. And, a piece of medium sized Laddu.
Flamboyant, right ? Food is a passion. If you live in Penang, it should be. Penang, is, after all, a food paradise. Name it, and you will be able to get hold of that favourite dish of yours. No joke. Every nook and corner on the island has a special something - for foodies.
Penang Straits. The Star Cruise in the evening.
I have plenty of work tomorrow. Cleaning, cleaning and more of cleaning. Need to head
to bed - soon. Sleeping is a luxury. You can not have too much of it. Just a certain amount. Further more, I am not much of a sleepyhead. I am, one who is early to rise. But, not early to bed. 6 hours is sufficient.
So, good night. Sleep tight. And, sweet dreams.
I do not have a song in mind for today. It is hard searching for one - this time of the hour - when the brain is just thinking about hitting the sack.
Alas - this is what comes to mind. Enjoy !!!!

Thendral Vanthu Ennai Thodum from Thendrale Ennai Thodu

I was trying the Dynamic View template at Blogger.com. Attempted a few times. They do not allow me to put in the trivial stuff that I so want to. Perhaps, I am not that net savvy, to do the alterations. Whatever. I will try them after my favourite festive season. The Daisypath countdown ticker to Deepavali is a necessity on my blog. If we can have countdowns to New Year, exams and weddings, why not for this, too. I am super glad I have one this year.
Shopping again, tomorrow. Deepavali shopping, of course. This time around, with my sister. That is the plan as at now - unless she makes a change. Penang's Little India was all abuzz, last Friday, when I went with my two girlfriends. The crowd should be stronger this weekend, taking into account, that the Festival of Lights is just about 11 days away.
I am listening to Ayayo Nenju Alayuthadi from Aadukalam. On ear phone in full blast. I love this song. It has sentimental values, to me. Super sentimental values. I listened to SPB-Ji sing it live, while I was in Chennai in February 2011. The Pre-Valentine concert at Kamarajar Arangam.
India was a topic, we talked about, recently. Of going together. I cannot imagine any other word which would describe travelling to my favourite country with him in tow, but - perfect. A walk holding hands along Elliot Beach, praying together at Kapaleeswarar Temple, watching a good movie at Satyam's, "Kaadai" briyani for lunch at Anjappar's Pondy Bazaar, dinner at Murugan's Idli Shop and an auto ride around Chennai - come to mind. Hope God reads blogs. Mine, too. This post especially.....
Have a great weekend, everyone !!!!!!

Ennenna Seidhom Ingae From Mayakkam Enna

My Lord Thirupathi
I am a self confessed fan of Dhanush. An ultraist when it comes to his movies. The guy next door who stole a million hearts - mine included. He is dashing in his own sense. And, someone with a great sense of style - especially of lately. I have always liked him - lots. And, Aadukalam increased that exorbitantly. I was dazed and dumbfounded with his excellent performance. Staggered, startled, stunned. Name it. His perfomance was brilliant. Every expression and demeanor. The National Award for Best Actor he won, is all deserving - undoubtedly.
I am eagerly waiting for his next big release, Mayakkam Enna. The trailer made me big eyed. Keeping my fingers crossed that it would be a good watch and a massive hit. A Deepavali release, hopefully. I will be on long leave this festive season, so watching it at the theaters, would be something I would love to do.
Most of the songs in the movie have turned out well. Dhanush, himself, has sung two. I am posting the one by Harish Ragavendra. Something with a sense of spiritualism and devotion. Lyrics score a perfect ten as Harish's nuances. Soothing - especially on a day when the heart is a little burdened.
What we are is God's gift to us. What we become is our gift to God. ~Eleanor Powell~
God bless!!!!

Enna Aachi from Vedi

India. India. India. The country I so love. The nation I am hopelessly crazy about. From the northern most Leh, Jammu Kashmir to the southern most Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. From the easternmost Kibithu, Arunachal Pradesh to the westernmost Ghuar Mota in Gujarat. I adore all of her.
Chennai is my favourite city. Puthucherry (also known as Pondicherry), my maternal village. And, Kanchipuram, my paternal. I also have a soft spot for Kanyakumari - the romantic seaside town, Trichy - for the architectural marvel of Thayumanaval Shivan Temple, Uchi Pilaiyaar Temple and the famous SriRangam and Madurai - the temple city. But, Chennai is always numero uno. My number one - any given time.
I am missing her, right now. I am wishing, so much, I had the capability to fly there, this very moment. The place where I sincerely believe my soul resides. Chennai, the metropolitan city that I awe.
We are still planning on our next trip there. The last was in January-February 2011. I am praying for a miracle. The sooner the better. The longing to set foot there, is accumulating.
I was reading through a few blogs when this one caught my eye. On what else, but my favorite Chennai. Give it a try, especially, if you are planning one soon.
http://backpakker.blogspot.com/2011/08/madras-special-30-things-to-do-in.html
I would love to do all those 30 things. Those simple things. With someone close to heart, of course..... Chennai is where my soul resides. And, being there with someone who shares and completes mine (soul), would be 100% perfect.......

Thendral paadavum from Manithan Maravillai

To him that waits all things reveal themselves, provided that he has the courage not to deny, in the darkness, what he has seen in the light.
~Coventry Patmore~
One more stunning number from the 1960's. I can listen to this one - the whole day through. The lyrics are mindblowing. So, is the simple melody.
The emotions of a gutless soul, brazenly in love. Old songs, have a sense of distinction. Something that most new ones, lack.
Lyrics, lyrics, lyrics. Yet again.
Patience is virtue. Patience is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances. The remedy for every trouble.
I am waiting - courageously - having seen the light. Patience keeps me going.....
Happy Monday - everyone !!!

Chotta Chotta Nanaya Vaithaai from Engeyum Eppothum

I love things which are done candid and unpretentiously. I adore simple stuff. This song is a current craze, thanks to its free spirited and laid back video narration. I have been trying high and low to get hold of this movie. Intuition says it would be a definite, worthwhile watch. So, do many reviews. Behindwoods gave the film 3 out of 5 and cited that it was a "loveable tale of commoners and their destiny" that had "simplicity as its biggest strength".
The Tamil movie industry is growing positively. This one does not come with a big budget or huge names, but has been the talk of many. I will watch, soon - come what may. Movies like these are not meant to be missed. And, as you know, I am a zealot for good, virtuous Tamil movies.
Anjali. She is one of few talented actress, of present times, that does not bank in solely on glamour and glitz. She is an actress in all rights. Katrathu Thamizh, Angadi Theru and Toonga Nagaram, among her credentials. I am uncertain about what this movie is all about, but she makes me inquisitive, thanks to her naughty, flirtatious, bold and enticing character, in contrast of the shy, meek and timid Jay, in this song.
Watch this song. Watch. Ya, watch. Not just listen. It is so very pleasing. Something that will put a huge smile on your face.
All rave and recognition must go to newcomer M. Saravanan for direction, writing and screenplay and A.R Murugadoss for producing. Na. Muthukumar's lyrics for this song and the duet between Chinmayi and Satya is all flawless.
Sunday evening in this part of the world. Monday comes a calling tomorrow. Deepavali, just 2 weeks and a few days ahead. Spring cleaning has started. Baking cakes and cookies, would too, come next week.
I had a wonderful week, last. Looking forward and praying to an equally good or awesomely better one, this  time around, too.
Take care & God Bless.....

Kannukum Kannukum Mothal from Ninaika Terindha Maname

Need to confess that I have never heard this song neither watched the movie - ever. And, then, how now ? Watched something on TV. A musical program. This song popped up. Instant attraction. Thanks to the particular, uplifting lines - in bold. Searched for it on YouTube and voilà, here I am, with the song of the day.
It was a super hectic Saturday for me. My first stop, this early morning, was to the temple. The third Puratasi Sani. Lit a ghee lamp for my revered Lord Thirupathi before heading to an Indian restaurant for breakfast. Skipped my fast this week. Fasting would have been unwise, with the number of places I had to go, and the list of things I had to get done.
Returned to my sanctuary around 5.30pm, a midst a heavy thunderous rain, to Amma's special home made evening tea, a special seat in front of the living room TV and a compilation of good songs on Sun Music. Perfect.....
Tomorrow is Sunday. Thank God. I still have another day to unwind.....
Cheers !!!
p/s - I miss Chennai - heaps. Being vegetarian makes me miss my delicious South Indian Thali Sets, more than ever..... Counting days before I return to the city where my soul resides.

Kaveri Oram Kavi Sonnen from Aadi Perukku

The great G. Ramanathan and the idolized Kannathasan come together in the beautiful, emotional number. It knocked on my music senses while I was searching for some old songs. P. Leela(1934-2005) sung this pièce de résistance.
The evening went awesomely well. We had a great time. Three's always a company. Menega, Malar and me. Started of with fried noodles with egg for Malar, a set of chapathi for Menega and vegetarian banana leaf cuisine for me. Then, some shopping - here and there. We got ourselves, each, two set of colourful Maankatha steel bangles - as remembrance, for the day. We reached home practically around 11.30 pm - tired but glad and pleased.
A true friend unbosoms freely, advises justly, assists readily, adventures boldly, takes all patiently, defends courageously, and continues a friend unchangeably. ~William Penn~
Adventured boldly. That's what we did this evening. We have already planned our next adventure. Mid November, here we come.
Rejoice - the weekend has just started.

Engume Anandam from Bale Raman

One of Appa's favourite hum. A classic that you cannot get bored of. Yours truly, too.
Did you know that this movie was released in 1956 in Tamil & Telegu. This song was the masterpiece of Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao. Appa has talked lot of him. Ghantasala. A genius during his era. He must be. If not, how can his compositions still have listening power, despite all these years ?
I have a date tomorrow. No. Not with that super sweet guy named Mogan. It is with two girlfriends. We have planned an evening pre-Deepavali shopping at Penang's famous Little India. The festive atmosphere is already in the air - especially, in that area. I don't have anything in particular, that I want to get. My Deepavali churidar suits and sarees were bought months back, in February 2011, in my favourite country, India. I did see a beautiful, yellow with golden polka dots and puffed sleeves patiala suit some time back, while shopping there, with Akka. Might get it if it is yet to be purchased. It was such an ease to the eyes.
Glad, it is already Thursday, today. Tomorrow, comes, my favourite day. That, too with evening plans.
Take care, God bless - and, ya, enjoy this song. "எங்குமே ஆனந்தம்" - means, happiness every where. Ya. That is how life should be. With happiness, every where. In your heart, soul and mind....

Sengaanthal Kaiyale from Rowthiram

Have been listening to this song, on replay, since early morning. Haricharan has done an excellent job - nuances, feelings and all. Lyrics are simply perfect and fit the happy melody flawlessly.....
Wish they had the female version. It would have been unerring to my present standing. Of love, festive seasons and a zillion butterflies in my heart......

Mogan....
This one is 100% percent for you.......... (especially the ones in bold)

May Wondrous Wednesday dawn on each one of you... God Bless !!!

Thunbam Nergayil Yazh Eduthu from Orr Iravu

Wow - is all I have to say about this Bharathidasan masterpiece. One unmitigated number that emphasizes on the beauty of Tamil. A lullaby that affirms its sweetness.
I am so thankful to Appa for being adamant about me learning Tamil. I remember shying away from this Dravidian language when I was much younger, when English was the 'it' jargon.
Now, years later - I am indebted wholeheartedly to his then, insistence. How else could I appreciate magical lyrics like these, had I not learned this great language? So, here goes - Thanks Appa - for instilling me with monumental passion and respect towards my mother tongue, Tamil.
Tuesday is here. Mark it as a terrific one. It will. Life is ALWAYS about seeing the bright side.

Oru Naalum Unnai Maravaatha from Ejamaan

Manic Monday. Is back. Read somewhere that they have 5 of them this October. Tormenting. But the bright side, is, there are also 5 Saturdays and Sundays. Thankfully. Optimism is about encouraging us to see the bright side. And, that is what I am doing. 5 weekends - Yippie !!!!!
This week is about alternation on my blog. Interlacement of songs. Old and new. Want to give it some hoist. My favourite festive season is just weeks away. So, I guess, my spirits are very much higher.
Today it is from a movie of my one and only, favourite Superstar. Rajini-Ji. Sure to bright up the day. Again, optimism, is the word. What made me post this particular one ? Lyrics.... The ones below, and especially the ones highlighted..... Beautiful, aren't they ?

Have a magnificent Monday !!!

Kadhal Yathiraikku from Manithan Maravillai

Love comforteth like sunshine after rain  ~William Shakespeare ~
True, isn't it ?? Nothing comforts and cheers nor strengthens and soothes like it. Love - the universal language. The one that hearts speak.
Kathal Yaathiraiku is a beautiful love song from the 1962 Manithan Maravillai. A song I love to listen to, thanks to its enlivening lyrics. One that emphasizes that love is truly simple and needs no extravagance or splendor.
I adore old songs. They carry huge zest and zeal. Distinguished despite the decades.
Do take time to appreciate this great number......
And have a wonderful Sunday !!!!

Paaramal Paartha Nenjam from Poonthotta Kaaval Kaaran

Couldn't help but grin away as I listened to this particular song. Thanks to this unequivocal lines.
So sweet. And, right on.
Friday, just bade goodbye. And, Saturday righteously arrived. The first day of October 2011.
I want to go to bed, in the next few minutes. I am an early riser. Most days. On weekends, I am up as early as 7am - but laze away rolling on the bed, daydreaming and listening to a compilation of my favourite songs.
Have a wonderful weekend. I am truly looking forward, to one.
Take care & God bless......
