I heard this song in 1988, and got hooked on it, that very instance. SPB and Janagi-Ma for Gangai Maran.

Ennai Konjam Maatri from Kaaka Kaaka
Kaaka Kaaka was Gautham Menon's box office hit. All the songs were equally wonderful. This is the song that I would choose as my favourite.

Ennai Kaanaviliye Netrodu from Kathal Desam
An avant-garde in Tamil music. Thanks to AR.

Mazhai Peyyum from Reniguntha

Thamizha Thamizha from Roja
Happy Republic Day India. May you be blessed - always.

Yetho Ninaikiren from Thalainagaram
Again, one of those catchy numbers with dreamy lyrics.

Uravugal Thodarkathai from Aval Apadithaan
Such a beautiful song. KJY rocks.

Kanmani Anbodu from Guna
It is indeed a wonder, how a song as simple as this - minus immense musical instruments and a world class orchestra - manage to enchant so many of us. Diaphanous kind of song.

Bagavali Naatile from Gulebakavali
Appa acquainted me to beautiful, old Tamil music. And this movie. We watched this musical many times. Infact - it was also the last one, before his untimely passing in 1990. Gulebakavali - thus, holds huge sentimental values for me.
Bagavali Naatile was our favourite. In this movie, women rule the fictitious country, Bagavali - and men, superfluos.

Nandri Solla Unnaku from Marumalarchi
One of my other half's favourite picks. He likes the one by Unnikrishnan and Chitra. After repeated renditions on his player, I got hooked, as well.

Kaatrukuley from Sarvam
I have a very strong liking to this song, most probably due to Yuvan's husky voice and deep feel. Also, the amazing video clip - rather unusual for a Tamil movie.

Oru Naal from Devathai
This song has some kind of inscrutable feel to it. I remember watching it back then, during my uni days. Touches on reincarnation.

Enthan Uyire from Unnarugil Naan Irupen
Another of my all time favourite love songs. Catchy and infectious.

Kannalae Naan Kanda from Parthiban Kanavu (Old)
A.M Raja and P. Susheela. Music by Veda. Lyrics by Marudhakasi. What else can you ask for ??

Devan Theerpendrum from Nee Paadhi Naan Paadhi
This was a movie from the 90's. About destiny and circumstances. Loved the movie and this particular song. Again, the rocking KJY.

Mudhal Murai from Sangamam
Srinivas and Sujatha enthrall in this piece. Only Vairamuthu gives massive lyrics such as these.

Kangalin Vaarthaigal Puriyaatha from Kalathoor Kanamma
Everyone would remember this movie as little Kamalhassan's debut.
I have listened to this song from my childhood days, and still continue to. Even now, it astonishes me. Sung by the fascinating duo - AM Raja and P. Susheela. Music by R. Sudarsanam. Blithe.

Vanam Konda Venilavey from Sigaram
SPB can sing his heart out. That is what he did to this song. Every song he sings has a feel to it, and this too is no exception.
Monday, January 11, 2010
Enna Tholaithaai from Poi
The song that I love to listen to, looped, on a breezy and starry night. Lyrics by Kiruthiya and sung by Chitra-Ji. Magical.
Saturday, January 9, 2010
Pesugirenfrom Sattam Podathey
This was a surprise hit, especially since it was sung by a rather unknown group. With good storyline and great acting by Pritviraj, Padmapriya, Raaghav and Nitin Satya, this movie is one of those 'must watch'.
Friday, January 8, 2010
Uchi Muthal Paatham Varai from Sukran
Vijay Anthony's music. Sweet, catchy number.
Thursday, January 7, 2010
En Kanmani from Chitukuruvi
SPB, Baskar, Kovai Babu and P. Susheela talk, sing and act to the music arrangement of Maestro Illayaraja. A song with a life of its own.

Alaipayuthey - The Album
This is numero uno in my list of favourite movies. I have watched this movie so many times and lost count of it. The irony, however, is that, it has yet to bore me. I can never say no to watching a re-run of Alaipayuthey. Maniratnam is a genius in the Indian film fraternity. That everyone knows. But the credit also goes to everyone who appeared in the movie, no matter how miniscule the part, for being so natural and full of ease. I cannot name one song that I like in this movie, as I like them all. So, here, I am embedding the entire OST.

Paarkathey from Aaru
Catchy but sort of melancholic number. Even the video clip was rather natural.
Sunday, January 3, 2010
Nila Kaayum Neram from Chembaruthi
From the 90's era. I like this song due to the fact that it has some kind of lullaby effect. Melodious.

Vasanthamulai from Sarangadhara
This song was released way back then, in 1958. But it remains a tune that many Tamils hum and sing to, right until today. Beautiful, ever green melody by the great music director, G. Ramanathan.
Happy New Year.
