First, and foremost - thank you, from the very bottom of my heart, to everyone, for the birthday wishes. The one which came, some days after the mid of November 2014. Thank you for the blessings, the love, and the care.
Birthdays are very personal, to me. No. Not because of the getting old issue.
But, because, I truly believe, it is a day you celebrate with loved ones. The family and friends that you genuinely hold close to heart. And, I did, exactly that.
God and Appa. Thank you for continuing to watch over me. And for blessing me, from up above.
Amma, my Goddess. The one who makes me realise that heaven will always be a place on earth, as long as I have her, with me. Thank you for the midnight, surprise party.
Akka. My best friend. My second mom. We share a 13 year gap. But, we are allies. Compatriots. Shopping buddies. Gossip gang. Partners in craziness.
And, she is my favourite Whatsapp contact. Yes, such a favourite, that we share secret messages, even when in the same room. Thank you for the side dishes for party. Thank you for ensuring a good attendance.
My brother, Segar. Who remembered. For once. Hahaha.....
Guys rarely keep track of dates and all. So, when he actually called to wish, I found it a little weird and funny. Brothers. They can drive you crazy. He does, too. But, he cares just as much. And, I continue to count on him, anytime of the day.
Mogan. For one of the earliest wishes. For making me smile from ear to ear. For continuing to be a part of my life. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Inpan and Devaki. My besties in London. For the phone call across the miles. For the messages. For just being there, in my life. You've put our friendship on a pedestal. You're family, guys. And, I love you both as well as the two little ones, so very, very much.
Sivaram. My blog reader. Years have transformed us into Facebook and email friends. Thank you, too, for that surprise phone call, from India. I was truly taken by surprise because you remembered. And not to mention, that sweeter than sweet poem via mail. May God bless you in your new journey of life. And, yes, thanks. Very much appreciated.
To my besties, who compromise of 5 crazy girls, from my uni days - Thanks. You guys rock.
To everyone else who is aware of my EXACT birth date, and dropped by to wish, thank you, too.
Yes, I am blessed. Thanks.
Take a piece of the cake. Virtually. That's all that is possible for now.
"Subconsciously, it takes at least 6-8 months for the brain to process complete forgiveness for someone who hurt you emotionally....."
It's March now. 8 months since. Yes, I have forgotten a lot of things during this period. And, yes, I have forgiven a lot of people, too.
I had no intention to post today. But something popped up, out of the blue..... And, thus, here I am. Near to 15 minutes after 10pm.
Monday blues. I had piles of work on my table. Moderate, though - in comparison with some days. Coming back from a long vacation to find only this much is a blessing.
I skipped lunch. Wanted to clear the urgent stuff.
As I was doing my work, a close colleague, appeared, in front of my desk, with a cup of hot Milo. For me.
Yes, hot Milo.
And it brought back memories. And, tears gleaming in my eyes.
Mog♥n.....
Mog♥n makes perfect cups of Milo.
All the time. Yes, he does.....
I wish I could have one, now.
Milo, to me, is just not a cup of chocolate drink. I grew up associating it with love.
Mom made it for me while I was still in primary school.
She still does, until now.
On days, when she thinks, I should have a cup. A hot one, that is.
My sister does, too.
On Sunday mornings, she always makes one for me without hesitation.
She knows, I will never say no to a cup of hot Milo.
So, Milo, to me, brings thoughts of love and affection.
It still does. Always will.
Today, when my colleague did so, it just strengthened my ideology about this drink.
Milo, is, made with love. And, relates to warmth.
Milo, is another way, to say, I care about you.
I made myself a cup of hot Milo. A short while ago.
I am listening to Malai Mangum Neram from Rowthiram. Now.
It remains one of my favourite songs.
And, Mog♥n.....
I have posted this song plenty of times. Today, again.
Sorry, if it bores you.
But, I love this song. More than ever, today. The video is haunting. The walk in the rain, under the same umbrella. The motorcycle ride.
And, have you ACTUALLY listened to its lyrics ?
It's simply beautiful. Mind blowing - beautiful. Love is about remaining faithful - at all times - even in the hardest of situations.....
Playing on the stereo in my room, as I am writing this, on replay are this 3 songs - "Yennodu Vaa Vaa" from Neethane En Ponvasantham, "Maalai Mangum Neram" from Rowthiram and "Innum Konjum Neram" from Mariyaan. July - was hectic but awesome. It was a blissful 31 day span. I had a short vacation in Bali with some girlfriends. I was out on a beautiful date with Mogan. I watched Mariyaan - twice - with my darling sister who has been such a sport, despite not being too fond of Dhanush. I spent a four day weekend in the capital of Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur - with closest family and friends. I went furniture hunting - and am weeks away from a new, cushy, cozy and snug sofa. A self chosen fabric one - thus, the wait. I had lunch at my work desk - on most days. I bought my Mom a gift - she has been wanting for some time now. I talked to Appa 's soul - every night without fail. I am praying devoutly for something. He is my Other God. I met an old, humble, well mannered and friendly couple who sell rice for a living at a restaurant in Pitt Street Penang. They made me feel so sheltered. I got a gift from a friend. A burlap diary. It was cute. I have yet to start jotting.
I love traditional Indian clothes. Churidhars and sarees - especially. My cousin who flew in from India bought me this. From Soch, Chennai. A dark green and pink kurti. Loved it - heaps.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that, August will be wonderful, too.
I miss so many things. My father - especially.
And, India. My motherland. The country I so love.....
And these.....
Can I skip a song ? It is getting late into the night, and I want to shut my eyes and dream. You go do that too..... Good night. God Bless.
First things first. I have to say my apologies. For being such a lazy blogger. I wish I had more time in hand. Free time - that is. To actually, sit and write my heart out. My days are fully occupied. I am not just busy as a bee. I am as busy as a cranberry merchant at Thanksgiving. Yeah. That is how life is at the moment.
My bestie at work was transferred to another department - without any announcement. It was shocking and very much unanticipated. It has been days since we went back together, and I miss her a lot. She is the life of my travelling time. The comic who makes me laugh in barrels.
And now - both of our jobs have been reassigned. Thus, me being super busy. With her away - I have been delegated to do her job, mine as well as train another staff. And, it gets easily taxing. But, work is work, and despite all the discontent, we just go on with the management's decision. Correct ? Same here.
I managed to watch couple of good Tamil movies. Thaandavam, David, Vattikuchi, Kadal, Chennaiyil Oru Naal. In chronological order. I am supposed to go watch Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga, later in the evening. Keeping my fingers crossed - for this highly recommended comedy.
So here goes. A speedy review. In point form - short, precise and basic. We have way too many exhausting in depth reviews. I do not want to do the same.
1. Thandavam - I have never liked Vikram. Yes. He is great actor - I know. But, to me, he is plain uninspiring. The only movie of his I enjoyed was Kaasi. And, this. Thandavam was relatively good. An action drama on terrorism with a lot of other issues thrown in. I watched the entire movie in one go.
2. David - My second attempt. Only due to the fact that - Mogan and I watched it together. I found Bejoy Nambiar's direction uncertain and wavering in most parts. The only good part of it was the ending - which stresses on the moral of forgiving.
3. Vattikuchi - At the theaters in my hometown. Only 5 of us in an entire cinema. I liked it - nevertheless. For Anjali's spontaneous acting and a funnily quizzical ending. Oops - yes - and those two songs titled, "Kurru Kurru" and "Kanna Kanna" deserve a special mention. I am addicted to the latter. What-A-Song!!!!
4. Kadal - One short sentence. I LOVE, LOVE the movie. I brush off and overlook every single negative review on it. Come on. It was a great movie. A must watch. A Tamil movie zealot's dream. Out of the box theme. Mani Ratnam cannot go wrong. He did not this time, too. I have watched it three times now. Gautham Kartik, who looks very South American, is a star in the making. And, I laud Rajiv Menon for his excellent cinematography. Manapad, Kottayam, Kochi as well as all other locations in the movie- were simply breathtaking. Kadal remains a stellar in my eyes.
5. Chennaiyil Oru Naal - Watched it yesterday. Another great Tamil thriller that kept me on my toes - throughout. With a huge cast and multiple stories entwined tactfully - this is another 2013 must watch.
What else, now that my short reviews are done with ?
Our Tamil New Year - Vijaya - comes a calling next Sunday. I may be away. My dearest brother is constantly using my broadband. Really. I am not making up stories. In fact, it has been weeks since I even went to Facebook. Hopefully, right after this.
Well, back to the Tamil New Year - my advance wishes. God bless - each and everyone of us. And may the year ahead bring us happiness and the best things in life.
To God - Thanks for the blessings. To my late Appa - I miss you - all the time. To my Amma, Akka and Mogan. Thanks. I am no one without you guys. Love always.
Signing off with this song. I am weirdly addicted to it......
I need to thank Vijay TV's Super Singer 4 program for paving my mind to this awesomely beautiful number. The melody and the lyrics both, intense. I have been listening to it since last night, yes - on replay. And, have yet to get enough of it.....
Listened to it, too, while on my ride back home, and couldn't help but savor, each and every line. Tamil is INDEED beautiful. Very, very beautiful - and this song is an excellent example. Vairamuthu must be the Einstein of words. How else do you expect me to rationalize the brilliant contents of this luring piece.
I love this song heaps. Better than the, "Aaruyire Manipaaya" version. This, scores, a perfect 10 in my books. Heavenly. Ethereal. It puts me in the, "let-me-fall-in-love-all-over-again" feeling. It instigates me to reminisce my life's poetic moments. I am going to sleep with this playing. Yeah. Tonight, at least. At a sweetly soft volume level, it will -whimsically lull me to sleep, draw me into a dream and, wake me up with a smile. All three, embedded with thoughts of him.....
Him. The only guy I have hopped on the motorbike with besides my father and brother. The one who is my first and ONLY love. The one that has eyes that match the intensity of lightning. The one that makes me smile - inanely. The one that I seek and scrutiny for, in a sea of crowd. The one that makes me heart somersault.....
And this song is 101% for him.....
My Manpuru Mannava.....
Go enjoy the weekend. I am in a super jolly mood.....
Sunday is Maha Sivarathiri. For the Universe's Ultimate - Lord Shiva. Say your prayers well. He WILL answer. Do not doubt. God never lets go. We do. He DOES NOT..... p/s - I have cut my long hair short. It now sits near the nape of my neck. Was inspired by Shakthishree Gopalan. :-) . He knows. He hasn't seen me in it yet, though.....
Down with a frail flu, and thus, tucked away in the precincts of my room.
I was supposed to do so many stuff today.
Go for that awesome comedy everyone is raving about, titled - "Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya?".
A brisk walking session with my sister, at the joggers park, which is a 10 minutes drive from home sweet home. You see, I am lousy sportsperson. And, all this hype is only due to the fact that I bought my very first pair of sport shoes.
A drop by to my regular tailor. He sent me a sms, this morning, reminding me that my saree blouses are ready.
And, I have not done any of the above mentioned. All I did was rest, on my bed. And, after months - I had a long afternoon catnap.
Saw a poster on these 10 things on tumblr. Found it drawing. And, here I am today, with my version of answers.
10 different things I want to say to 10 different people right now.

- India. Yet, again. By now, you should have known how absorbed I am, about India.
- Displaying love - no matter how plain. - Great food. - Illayaraja's music. 2 things I wish I had never done.
- Been rude to my parents during my rebellious teenage years.
- Discontinuing my Grade 7 in piano lessons.
1 confession. - Hmmm.... I have. Already. To the Almighty Lord. It is a silent prayer, in the form of a heartfelt confession. And, this is an acoustic version of a great number from my favourite movie. Let the sun shine this 2013 !!!!! God Bless.....
A rather lovey-dovey post..... Skip, if it sounds a little over board, but that is EXACTLY how he makes me feel.....Lovey dovey, mushy, nutty, all soft and warmhearted......
Thanks to my best friend Mogan. The one who molds my rustic heart into the beautiful Ladakh Valley. The one who builds my days into breathtaking ones.
The recent days have been super colossal ones.
Not a second passes, without his thoughts. Not a minute, without his presence - emotionally.....
Words run out on me..... Yours truly is absolutely plugged into his sentiments, soul and spirit.
The ONLY song that comes to mind, right now.....
Happy Sunday !!!!! And, Happy Mother's Day - to each and every female, in this world..... And, to my darling Amma - thanks for everything. My heaven remains beneath your feet. God bless you, always..... Made Amma, and Akka (my second mum), an eggless Suji Cake. It turned out pretty tasty. Amma gave it 8/10. Akka 9/10. Not too bad, I guess. Thanks to a wonderful website titled Sharmi's Passion and my love for cooking.
Tea Time - My cuppa tea and pieces of the Suji Cake
The hot from the oven eggless Suji Cake
The side view - of the eggless Suji Cake.
I have been on my toes - yet again. Been super busy since morning. Wanted to catch forty winks but somehow, household duties got in the way. Weird, but I actually enjoy doing them. Read a review about the movie from which today's song comes from. Leelai. In fact, I caught a glimpse of it on Sun TV's Top Ten Movies this morning. It was in fourth place. Looks impressive. Would definitely find a way to watch it and keep you guys updated. I love this song. And, the way the video has been presented. Done with great taste minus the uproar. Nice. 5 reasons why I chose this song and video clip. No. 1 - The song. The sentimental flow. The lyrics. Beautiful. No. 2 - The chemistry and intimacy between the hero and heroine is just amazing. Nothing overboard. Lots of similarity to Alaipayuthey's Snegidhane, noted. Semma romantic. No. 3 - The heroine and her awesome choice of sarees. The hues and the colours compliment her perfectly. Wow. No. 4 - The background. Nothing fancy. A fort boarded by the sea. Wonderful. Can someone tell me, where is this? But, India, right? No. 5 - Every moment in this video rings a "huge" bell.....(yours truly is smiling sheepishly, yet again.....)Every single second of it. Rephrasing. Every single second of it. Nijama, nijama.....(truly, truly). FYI, I awarded Mogan, the Quantum-Leap-from-Workaholic-to-Super-BestFriend-Award, recently. He has yet to be notified. Hahaha. This too, I shall keep you all updated, about..... Have a great week ahead. See you around. Stay sweet, and safe, ya !!!!!
The week went by delightfully. With special utterance for 5th and 7th of March. Thanks to - you know who.....
The rainy season is back, here, in Malaysia. Sungai Petani, my hometown, as well, as Penang Island, both, have been experiencing, heavy downpours, practically every day. It is a blessing, actually. The weather is cool and uplifting.
I slept a little longer this Saturday morning. Felt like doing so. Despite, the rays of the gorgeous sun, seeping through my window panes, aptly trying to wake me up. Weekends are my favourite. It is great to sit back and enjoy the day - without having to drain the brain way too much.....
Went out with my girl friends for dinner last night. It was a blast. We had a big dinner - accompanied with large doses of laughter. Fish Fillet Carbonara, Tom Yum Mee, Claypot Chicken Rice, Rojak, Watermelon Juice, Barley as well as a large cup of Ice Kacang, as dessert. If you are clueless about the food mentioned, do google for images - you should be able to get the picture, of what a humongous dinner we had.....
Signing off for now....
Will write about the beautiful moments some other day - when a great situation song comes in mind - befitting the spell he put me into.....
For now, this is my song for the day.... For my கள்ளச் சிரிப்பழகா..... Mog♥n....
My 23rd February morning was - flawless. Thanks to his presence - right, beside me, for an entire journey. He is fond of teasing me. He relishes it. The twinkle in his eyes and the significance of his smile - give him away. Every time, he says something fanciful, his eyes undeniably search mine, for a reaction. The moments were magical and magnificent, courtesy of the many read-between-the-lines-conversations. Have been reminiscing it, since the moment we parted..... I, so, adore him..... This song (especially the Tamil lyrics in bold.....) is for the guy who stole my heart BIG time, this early morning..... .....Mog♥n.....
Today - 17th February - is rated - ♥♥♥♥♥ - thanks to that robust but sugary voice that greets me at 10.25am..... with obviously, sweet nothings..... (Oh, Thank You, Almighty.....) Friday evenings take the edge of weekdays. And the two days, that follow, are plain heavenly - especially when home is sanctuary..... Went out with a close gal pal for an early dinner. Just the two of us this time, as the other one was out on a date. We are planning a weekend island getaway. She is organizing. The two of us are chipping in with ideas and all. So far, the plans are going smoothly. Keeping our fingers crossed, as we have been planning this for a few months now. These particular lines are replaying on my mind..... this moment.....
Ya - that's EXACTLY how I am right now. A வாசல் தூண். A pillar who waits in silence and with patience - at the entrance of the home - for the return of its owner.....
I got up at the break of dawn - with thoughts of him. Him, that I so miss. Not as much as what I miss Appa - but lots as in lots, lots - for someone who does not share a biological relationship with me.....
I miss his intense stares. I miss his warm smile. I miss cheeky wink. I miss his artful teasing. I miss his simplicity and coy. I miss his voice and that loud, hearty laughter. I miss him holding my hands. I miss - everything - about him.
It feels better now that I have penned all these down. He is someone who works hard and diligently. There is littlest chance of him reading this. Mushy feelings is not his cup of tea. But fret not (I am telling myself), at least people who stop by to read this will. Right ? That itself is cheer and comfort.....
One day, when he, eventually, stops by my blog, reads this post and sees the picture of these tea lights, he will know - how much he means to me and will continue to. Love, after all, is patient and protects, trusts, hopes and always perseveres.
I am listening to this beautiful number from a yet to be released movie titled Unnodu Oru Naal. Chinmayi blows my mind. The songs lyrics tingle my spine. Wowwww.... What-A-Song ??? Unequivocally for my present situation. My sentimental soup song..... Going out for lunch, with Amma and Akka. Everything returns to norm, tomorrow. The long weekend bids goodbye, this evening..... Take care, God Bless. Appa - Miss ya like crazy..... Mog♥n - You too.....(and this song is all for you)..... See ya around !!!!! With lots of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, ~Shalu~
Ni hao !!!! That's hello in Mandarin. Befitting the Chinese Lunar New Year that falls tomorrow. The weekend in about to end, but I am not sweating. It is a long weekend, for us, Malaysians. National holiday is until Wednesday, the 24th of January 2012. So, I have two more days. Cool, right ??? Spent the first two days of the weekend, just unwinding and taking a big breather, at my favourite sanctuary - home. I would love to revamp and spruce up my blog. High time, I guess. Did try the new Timeline by Blogger, but that would mean, I have to let go of a few stuff that I so want to have. So, I am still in the midst of it. Planning and blueprinting. I need to thank Philo Farnsworth for making the world's first working television system with electronic scanning of both the pickup and display devices. I watched(the reason why I need to thank Farnsworth) and heard this song on Sun Music, last night, on a show called, "Paatu Puthusu". A few lines grabbed my attention..... and the rest, they say is history..... A peppy number, that tugged my heart with its "semma" lyrics..... It is on replay on my IPod at present time..... Hooked, crazily is the word..... Give it a try..... You might, too..... Till I sign in again - Gong Xi Fa Cai..... Lets welcome the Water Dragon!!!!!
Ya. It is me. Me. Me. And, all me. On a - weekday!!!! Unheralded.
The days have been dreadfully hectic. I am zealously looking forward to Friday evening. For two main reasons. First - for a date with my closest girlfriends. We last met up before New Year. It is nearing the end of January, so a get together would be perfect. Second - for an awesomely, long weekend - thanks to the Chinese New Year celebrations. Life shall return to norm on Wednesday, the 25th of January. Till then, yours truly will enjoy her days unwinding and doing as she pleases......
Good night. God Bless!!!!!
Shalu - signing off, for now.....
This song did not ring a bell to me, then. Then - when - everyone was raving about it. It is NOW, though. Of circumstance and coincidence. Of destiny and detail. Of scene and status. Of thing and time.....
For him, and him only.....
“The Lord Who is true to His devotees”Near Cuddalore, South Arcot District, Tamil Nadu
Happy Ponggal, everyone !!!!! The day started real early for me. Our sweet ponggal, a rice dish boiled with milk and jaggery, boiled and overflowed around 8.52am, with its first spill, facing the east - the most influential cardinal point. Auspicious, I believe. And, a sign of optimism. It is, after all, where, the sun rises, doesn't it ? The rising of a sun is usually equaled to a new beginning. Ponggal, is too. The birth of the Tamil month of Thai. The month, that we Hindus believe would bring us a lot of good opportunities and great fortune. I read his SMS around 11.28am - after prayers and breakfast. It was received around 9.56am. I reply, immediately. ஆருவம்... they would say, in Tamil. Meaning, enthusiasm. "It's faith in something and enthusiasm for something that makes a life worth living," quotes Oliver Wendell Holmes. So agree..... I thank God for everything. This blessed life..... Again - Happy Ponggal, all !!!!!
Good morning folks !! Today is Bogi or Bhogi - the day before Pongal. Celebrated in honor of Lord Indra, "the God of Clouds and Rains", worshiped for the abundance of harvest, thereby bringing plenty and prosperity to the land. On Bhogi all people clean out their homes from top to bottom, and collect all unwanted goods. This day is meant for domestic activities and of being together with the family members.... and that is EXACTLY what I want to do!!!!!
I got my heart broken during the week. Still, in somewhat disintegrated shape. It crumbles every time, I muse over that precise moment..... 10th January 2012.
I know he never meant to hurt me, and vice versa. We have both apologized since that unpleasant occasion. Right now - silence and still - is what remains, between us.....
This is the song that blasts in my room - at this very moment - on replay and maximum volume. It has been for the past few days. My Tamil heavy metal tranquilizer. The one that drives my current pain away. The one that appeases my present cluttered stated of mind......
To him - Sorry, from the depth of my heart.
I am walking away.....

Me coming online on weekdays - is out of question. Days are too hectic. Chores come like avalanche. Writing is something that I love and hold close to heart. Alike reading, gardening, sewing and cooking - which also need time investment. I have been in missing mode - since the birth of the new year. Miss, as in pine and yearn. My Appa, being the one I miss most. I so, wish he was around. Life would have been far simpler and totally unmarred..... I also, miss the one, who reminds me so much of Appa. His diligence and hardwork, startle me. I do get to listen to his voice, every now and then, but that's about it. I wish we could spend some time together. I really, do..... Chennai City. I so, so miss. The place where my soul resides. Hanging out by Elliot Beach, on a full moon day, after an evening visit to the Asthalakshmi Temple. Drinking freshly squeezed Pomegranate juice with ice, near Deenadayalan Street. A drive along ECR during sunrise. Shopping for sarees and churidhars at Panagal Park. Watching a good movie at Satyam's. Lunch at Anjappar's..... The list goes on..... My trips to the beach - here, in Penang. It has been months since I walked along one - despite wanting very much to. Weird. Here I am, living my days on an island, which as we all know, is surrounded by water, and yet, not finding time to go to the nearest oceanfront. And, so many other things.....
Call me sentimental. Call me emotional. Or gushy, dreamy, moonstruck, nostalgic or, even jejune. I do not mind. I love this scene. I had tears rolling down my cheeks, watching it. It struck me - precisely. A love scene - so unlike any other. I searched high and low for this on YouTube, right after the movie, but without avail. And, by happy chance, I stumbled on it today. Do give it a shot. For the fascinatingly, unusual love confession.....
Chosen song for today due to these particular lines.....
Have a great week ahead..... Mine is expected to be super busy, just like the last..... Take care. God Bless.
Happy Belated New Year everyone !! My wishes are a little late, I know, but, isn't it better to be late than never ?? Hope the year started with a big bang for each and everyone of you, and will continue to prosper until the next one arrives. The week was hectic. The thought of writing a short post did emerge every now and then. Unfortunately, thoughts remained thoughts. Pragmatism failed. It has been a beautiful Saturday over here. The moderately sunny and extremely windy kind-of-one. It is 35 past 5 in the evening now. Amma's freshly brewed milk tea is minutes away. If Popeye's was spinach, this is mine. Homemade boost. Watched this movie during my New Year weekend. A good one, that is definitely on my 2011 recommendation list. Cheers !!! See ya around, REAL SOON :-P
