- I have been rather busy. Or acting, so. No. I take that back. I have been truly busy. My vacation is less than a month away. Yippie. Yippie. Yippie. (I am shouting my lungs and heart, out, okay?)
- Naan Ee is such a great movie. I have watched it more than 10 times now - and am yet to get tired of it. A wholesome family entertainer - definitely.
- I am down with a mild sore throat. My esophagus is as dry as the Atacama Dessert. Yes. I am drinking plenty of warm water. Yes. I am drinking the H20 like a fish. But, the sore is not budging.
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. It is going to be ONLY four days of work. Yes - I am smiling. Long live Malaysia. Long live the plenty holidays you give us - your citizens.
- It gets dark, earlier now. Here, in Malaysia, at least. 7.30pm seems like 8.30pm. That dark. But, the days appear to move slow. Or is it, just me ?
- The coming weekends are going to hectic. Mum dearest will be starting on her Deepavali cookies, and yours truly, is SUPPOSED to help, WILLINGLY. I do, most of the time, actually. But sometimes - argh, let me not get into it. You know.....
- My Deepavali shopping is practically DONE. I do not intend to further burn a hole in my pocket. That will be done - in my India. Shopping in Malaysia has ceased.
- Illayaraja is a WONDER. No one can ever replace that unique voice of his. He colours my auditory range - with the rainbow. I can listen to him ALL DAY LONG. How I so wish he would have a concert in India, while I am there.
- My favourite colour is STILL yellow. Whatever, hue. As long as it has any shade of yellow, I am fine. It is the colour of the sun. The colour of optimism. Agree ?
- I have become a crazed fan of the song "Yenodu Vaa Vaa" in the soon to be released "Neethane Yen Ponvasantham". Lyrics are just - so me. And, no brownie points for guessing. IR is the MD. How can I not get mad about it, huh ?
- That's all for today. Happy Days ahead. God Bless.....

En Uyire from Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathiley
- Hello. I am back. Last week was little hectic. Could not post. Apologies.
- It is 2.45pm right here, in Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia - right now. The day is beautiful - thanks to a 45 minute drizzle, an hour ago. Weather is awesome. Clouds are ample. Breeze is generous.
- Mum is making eggless jam tarts. Mum is life time vegetarian. Me - until October 16th, the day the Tamil calendar month of Puratasi ends. Need to go help her, once this post is done.
- Watched Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathiley last night. 99.9% of regular Indian audience would have found it a bore. It was, slow moving, indeed. Abstract. I would be in the 0.01% category. Found it worthy. Lots of moralism and casual preaching in dialogues. Nice, it what I would describe it, as. Loved the last scenes.....
- I have a new love. Don't pop your eyes. It's isn't with someone. It is with something. Sarees. The Indian traditional costume for women. Aren't they lovely ??? So, my India trip soon, is bound to burn my pocket. Ufff....
- I miss my father. Still do. Always will. I must have been super lucky and blessed to have such a great one. Miss you, Pa. Lots. Lots. Lots.
- 30++ days more to go. I am actually gigantically excited, but playing cool. Really. Oh, November - cannot you make it fast ???
- Hmmm.... I am lost. On what else to write. In thinking mode, at the moment.
- May the week ahead be happy and pleasant and blessed - for all of us. Prudence does not play a part in love and compassion. Right ?
- Take care. God Bless. See you all around

Rekkai Mullaithen from Sundarapandian
- It is a beautiful Sunday afternoon, here. It drizzled, a midst the shining sun. Lovely, was the sight.
- Shopping for my Deepavali saree later in the evening, my my mom and sister. I am like, 70% sure I am buying that yellow and green cotton saree. And, there after, a stop over to my tailor. Chaya time, to top it off.
- 1 month, 2 weeks and 3 days to go? God, that seems so far away. Hmm - if only September would end today. October had only 5 days. And, the days after November 9th had 72 hours, a day - I would be EUPHORIC.
- Raagamaliga's Duet series ended this morning. The Ramesh-Vijayalakshmi team, won, as expected. They are awesome singers. What was not (expected), though, is that the win was a tie with Sachin-Pratiba. I found it unjust. Unwarranted. But, as they say, the judges decision is final, and final, it shall be.
- My wardrobe is a mess. And, right after I finish with my post, I am heading to get it in order. I like them neat and orderly.
- Managed to drag my sister to temple yesterday, evening. I have been having a growing adoration for Goddess Kali. The past 5 months and so. Spent about 15 minutes at Her temple near to my home. Also, dropped by a Ranganathar Temple. The first of four Saturdays in the month of Puratasi, it was.
- I am still reading Elizabeth Gilbert's, "Eat, Pray, Love". It is such an awesome read. Love every word in it. She puts life into words. She makes you imagine all that she writes. I am still in her musings about Italy. Yet to step into India and Indonesia.
- Life has been super hectic. Work has become never ending, despite me attempting to clear them up. I have got to draw a plan so that I will not leave anything unresolved before my long vacation.
- Have you had iced milk coffee at night ? I have been. Of lately. Find it, simply refreshing. Give it a try, ya !!!!!
- And, here we are at the 10th bullet. It sounds violent. This song isn't - thankfully. I am signing off. And, I am signing off with a prayer for each and everyone of us. May our days and weeks and months and years ahead, be blessed by the Almighty. Have fun !!!

Engengu Nee Sendra Bothum from Ninaikka Therintha Maname
Hello, once again. Pretty spirited, ain't I ? Two posts in a week. India, is responsible. The notion that there is less than 60 days before I touch the land where my soul resides, is inspiring and thrilling. Have you ever heard the Smurf's theme song ? The one that goes, "Lala Lalalala Lalalalala.." Well, my heart is thumping exactly, that. In, ecstatic mode.
I decided late last night, as I was heading to bed, that today was going to be 'Pictorial Day' over here, on my blog. And, I guess I am, somewhat rightly prepared. So, here goes.
p/s - The song of the day, is Engengu Nee Sendra Bothum from Ninaikka Therintha Maname. Scroll down to listen to this super romantic number, but don't skip what I have written. So much of energy and effort spent by yours truly. Give it a try. It is not those long winding ones that would lullaby you to sleep, but, rather, ones, that would put a silly grin on your face, and a little twinkle in your eye. And, ya, I bet, by the time, you finish reading this, you will be humming my song of the day.....

- This is the ONLY picture on my bedside table. My late father and me, when I was say 4 or 5. Girl's are always dad's favourite, as boys are with mum. My father, my everything. The one who taught me to appreciate the little things of life and always remain humble and compassionate, to and about others. I still hold on to every word of advice he has given me. Not a day passes by without me, thinking of him. Not a day without me, missing him. And, yes, I would give up everything in life, to have him hug me, just like old times. And, yes, yes, I have tears trickling down my face, this very moment, because I miss you tremendously, my darling Appa. For being the greatest - I will always love you !!!!!
- I love architecture. Buildings, despite being inanimate, are beautiful. This is one of Whiteaways Arcade in Penang. It has that classic colonial feel. If we would just take a minute to appreciate the amount of diligence and travail people have actually invested in making it stand.
- The colours of India. White, green and orange. This is staple accessory during my every visit to my motherland. I am a proud Indian enthusiast. During one visit, while I was in Vellore Golden Temple, and the nation was celebrating Republic Day, I waited for half an hour, to get hold of the Tiranga flag brooch. I had it pinned on my churidhar the whole day. Still have it.
- I LOVE books and can drown in them. These are what I have at the moment. Most, done with. A book, a cup of chilled coffee and a seafront sounds perfect. Care to agree ?????
- The bright pink chrysanthemums that I bought this morning. Don't they look, hmmm, vivacious? A stalk sits beautifully in a clear vase at my home's Satya Sai's altar.
- I love elephants. There is a certain attachment I feel for them. I fancy anything to do with them. From mugs to soft toys to fabrics to movies. Encountered a real one during a drive pass Satyamangalam, Erode. Too bad that the driver did not let me go have a closer look. There is a new upcoming movie titled 'Kumki' and it revolves an elephant caretaker. The songs are awesome.
- Of ferry rides and Penang Island. Yes, the service can be horrid at times, with a waiting period of more than 30 minutes, but on a breezy day, believe me, it is an out of the world experience. 15 dreamy minutes if you are on vacation. If you are a daily user, hmmm, you might not appreciate them as much. Nevertheless, I do. I enjoy my ferry rides. My daily dreamy ferry rides.
- This was our visible treasure trove, back then. My siblings and mine. We flipped through them every day, enjoying every word and fancying every picture. We would have REALLY loved them - that's why they are still in tip top condition. My parents gift to the 3 of us. My love for reading was due to them.
- This is the full moon in August 2012. Over here, in my hometown - Sungai Petani, Kedah. It was big, bright and beautiful. And, it lit my entire garden, whimsically. 384,400kms away and yet it delivers that magical feeling. The Late Neil Amstrong, how I envy you.
- I so love ice creams. My fondness for the gelato is huge. I can have them any time of the day, without a drop of guilt. Midnight. When I am having a bad flu. On a super rainy day. The snack that I just cannot say no to. This was a treat by my sister, at Swensen's Gurney Plaza, Penang. Vanilla cone ice cream dipped in pistachios. Hmm.. Ice cream date anyone ?? I am free - anytime. LOL.
- What I had this morning for breakfast. Lemon curd rice with spicy potatoes. Purely vegetarian. They were so delicious, I ate them in lunch portions. In other words, I had breakfast like an Emperor. Ya. I did.
- What's on my bed right now ? A large fluffy foot rest cushion, my beige Charles and Keith bag, my Acer netbook's cover, the book I am currrently reading (and loving) and my Philips MP3. They are taking rest for now.... My turn comes later.
- Tadaaa.... And, here they are. My International Passport. The old one. Cancelled. The new one. Ready. 52 days more to go. I love you, Malaysia. And, I love you, India. Every nook and corner.
- Today. 17th September 2012. The first day of Puratasi. At 7.45am. A lit lamp. My blooming thulasi plant. The one which shares my innermost feelings. The month when Lord Vishnu resides on earth, with us fellow mortals. Ask Him anything you want. He shall answer.....
- The angry (haangiri - if said Vadivelu style) clouds of Sungai Petani minutes before it rained cats and dogs last Friday. No matter how immense the storm is, the sun shines - eventually. Life - alike. Tears and joy complete the circle of life.
- Local roses from Amma's garden. In full bloom. You should have seen them in real. They were so, so picturesque. Vivid. Trimming and constant caring keeps them happily blooming. Attention, is the magic word.
- This is a hand down saree from Amma. A cousin gave it to her last year. She has never tied it. She gave it to me, this morning. It is silk and comes in beautiful milk white and blood red colour. Mum just amplified my passion for sarees.
- Me, in a ocean blue and brick red Kanchipuram Pattu from India during a close girlfriend's engagement. I love the colour. It was a gift from an uncle in India. Matching steel bangles to top it all off.
- I am a Starbuck's fan. Not Coffee Bean's. Starbuck's is bitter. Coffee Bean's is sweet. My favourite cuppa is a light caramel macchiato. Or the iced latte. And a piping hot pie with chicken and mushroom filling. And, yes, I love to laze around in their oh-so-cozy lounges.
- Inspired by former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mu. Karunanidhi. Like really ???? Yes. REALLY. No jokes. I think the thick black frames makes one look, stylish and impressive. It creates a kind of dominance. I wear them on my casual outings. The one on top is powerless. The one below is not.
- This was a steal at Malaysian Ringgit, Thirty only. Fell in love with it, at first sight. My Deepavali saree needs to revolve around this centre piece. So, I am looking for something which has a green border or a sufficient amount of green on it. Like baby pink and green. Or orange and green. Or saffron or green. Something bright and bold. It will be indeed, the festival of lights and a dull hue, is not going to be my choice. If you have a colour combi that is running on your mind, leave me a comment. It will be appreciated, for sure.
- And, at last, here it is. My washing machine. No more hand laundry except for the delicate ones. My source of joy on a Friday evening - knowing I do not need to drag myself out of bed before 8am and take part in manual washing, rinsing and spinning. LOL. For the first time ever, we are using top load. It has been good to us so far (2 weeks, now).
- Two recent Tamil movies that would be worth your time. Naan Ee and Naan. I want to be tight lipped about both. Go watch. You will not regret. That is all I can say. Entertaining. Mind boggling. Zealot recommended.
- And, finally - here it is. My confirmed tickets to the land I so, so love. Penang - Kuala Lumpur - Chennai, and return. The anticipation is overwhelming. Pray it will all go well...
And, now - at last ..... Enjoy. The song. The week ahead. The minutes of the day. The God given life. The beautiful family. The peace and nature.....
God bless....... Shalu, signing off, with love to each and every one of you!!!!

Kannadasa Kannadasa from Thavam
This post is plain, impromptu. The main reason I am here, is this song. Solely. For its befitting lyrics (and, catchy tune). Today, while it played on my sister's car audio player, this song, lit me like a dynamite. I have heard it plenty of times. But, its radius today, is simply mystifying. Note, that I have used, is - present tense. It still, is.....
I realized that I like things written in point form. It is the lazy person's version of a paragraph, but, is gets the message or the idea, faster and precise. At least for me. So, stick with me, cause these next few weeks are going to be all about pointers and bullets.
Excuse me, can I start ?????
I realized that I like things written in point form. It is the lazy person's version of a paragraph, but, is gets the message or the idea, faster and precise. At least for me. So, stick with me, cause these next few weeks are going to be all about pointers and bullets.
Excuse me, can I start ?????
- I spent half of last Sunday at my town's Immigration Department. Was renewing my International Passport. The queue receipt they provided me, read, "Serving No. 1088, now." Mine was 1188. One hundred people ahead of me. When my turn came, it was nearly 3pm. Two things saved my day. My MP3 and the thought of India.
- I have finished reading Alice Sebold's "Lovely Bones". It was a moderate read. I am now engrossed in Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat, Pray, Love" and find it a Super Wow Wow book. Love the way she puts life into words. Of the 108 beaded japamalas, 36 tales each in Italy, Indonesia and India, and India (intentionally mentioned twice).
- I am a churidhar freak. An intensely growing churidhar freak, to be precise. Got two more pieces today. One in baby pink, and the other in bright saffron. This comes less than two weeks after a dark blue piece, a multi coloured striped piece and a dark brown with large orange flowers piece. I find them traditionally, alluring. In fact, while we were shopping today I was swept of my feet by this gorgeous checked orange and green lightweight cotton saree. My target by month end.
- Today, I was a passenger in my sister's car. Zero conversation. This song of the day, playing in the background. And, tadaaaa - I hear every line of its lyrics. In detail. Moral of the story, you appreciate songs more in two situations. When, you are the driver and the only one in the car. And, when your are being driven, in silent conversation. Hmmm, I must be a mushy romantic, at heart.
- Imman Annachi is one guy, who makes me laugh like a senseless, nut. Have you seen his expression ? No, I wouldn't mind dating him. Seriously. A guy who makes a girl laugh genuinely, is a keepsake.
- I need a personal ticker. For ???? For my countdown to the country where my soul resides. Yes, yes, yes. My soul lives in India. All over. It travels across all of its 28 states and 7 union territories. And, you know what ???? We are celebrating Deepavali in Pondicherry, where my maternal grandma lives. with a whole battalion of relations. Looking forward to a mega boisterous Festival of Lights.
- I have been doing huge amounts of research. It has been ages since I invested so much of energy into a level of analysis, as this. No. Not for any thesis or project paper. For my vacation to India. Places I would like to visit. Things I would like to do. Ones I have yet to. Like stopping over at Kanathur Jaganath Temple along ECR. Hop over to Guindy National Park. Unwind at Sowkhya Ayurvedic Spa. Have breakfast at Balaji's Sandwich Stall opposite Elsa Mall in Egmore. Watch "Neethane En Ponvasantham" at Satyam's (oh, puhleez GVM.... hopefully a Deepavali release, with fingers crossed) Plenty more..... (will keep you all updated)
- It is 1.41am here in Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia. My hometown. I have an early day tomorrow. It is the first day of the Tamil month of Puratasi, the holy month associated with my Lord Vishnu. And, yes, I am pure vegan for the next 30 days. So, good night..... God bless !!!!

Idicha Pacharisi from Uthama Puthiran
A super, super early Sunday morning for me. Rose at 6.15am and was out by 7.30am. A close gal pal of mine got hitched this morning. The semi hitch - the engagement, and it was in a temple on the island. I made it in time, despite a slight delay. Tying the saree, especially the "paatu" kind is not easy, mind you....
வேறேதும் வேணாமே, அது போதும்.....
After the ceremony, we went back to her apartments and had breakfast. The place was happily, boisterous. A dose of what I needed more of.
Stopped by a renowned temple on the mainland. Have been wanting to go there for months now. Glad I finally, made it.
And, had mutton briyani for lunch, before heading back home.....
This song brings a smile to the heart, and a flutter to the lips. No, you did not read it wrong. Intentionally written that way. Love is, indeed, as nutty as a fruit cake.
These lines are constantly trailing my sanity.
"என்னோட நீ சிரிச்சா, கண்ணீரை நீ துடைச்சா.....வேறேதும் வேணாமே, அது போதும்.....
ஏய் வீடு திரும்பையில, வாச தொறக்கையில.....
மஞ்சள் முகம் சிரிச்சா அதுபோதும்....."
மஞ்சள் முகம் சிரிச்சா அதுபோதும்....."
Beautiful, is not it ?
Off for a date. With the guy who makes me laugh for a whole hour. His name, is Iman Annachi and he comes on air at 4.30pm Malaysian time, on Adiyta Channel.
Have a beautiful week..... Keep smiling, keep rocking.....
God bless !!!!!

Oh! Shalini from Pooveli
![]() |
| Exit 168 on the North South Malaysian Highway - where home sweet home is...... |
காதல் பெண்ணே தேவை இல்லை கோவம்.....
பூக்களுக்கு பல் முளைத்தல் பாவம்.....
Heard this one, inadvertently. It put a smirk on my face and a beam around my brain. SPB-Ji has this perky way of delivering songs with full blown feelings.
You will know what I mean, if you give this song a try. And, this is extra special because he croons my name, as well.
It was an awesome day, indeed. Gallivanting, is what I did in the afternoon. Traipsing around my little hometown, which is pretty calm and composed - is fun. And, that is EXACTLY what I had this evening. FUN in capital letters. So, to everyone out there, who have been hoping for me to bounce back, thank you so, so much !!!!!!
I am spirited and strident. And this is me, spontaneously.
1. My favourite colour is yellow. A little bizarre because I have the least number of clothes in that hue.
2. I miss my father all the time. He is on my mind 24/7. He was the greatest. Still is. Always will.
3. Have you ever been to the magnificent Thayumanavar Swamy Temple, enroute the Ucchi Pillayar Temple in Trichy ? I find the architecture, ingenious.
4. Yours truly is indubitably loquacious - with people who I adore. And, vice versa.
5. Mention India, and I am all frisky. My motherland psyches me - big time. Reasons are plain nonessential.
6. Oru Ganam Oru Yugam Aaga from Nadodi Thendral is such a whimsical number. Maestro Illayaraja dazzles me as he weaves in his magical voice at 03:03. Heart stopping.
7. Money is not what life is all about. Sadly, that is the conception of the present generation. It is, undoubtedly, important BUT NOT everything. If you are a workaholic, and somehow, fate brought you to this particular post, and if you are reading it at this precise moment - do me a favour (or rather, do yourself, a favour...), take a day off and just unwind. It is those small moments that make your life big.
8. I love my religion. I am a proud Hindu. I was born one and WILL die one. And, yes I am devout.
9. Breakfast like a king. I do EXACTLY that. My first meal of the day is always in large portions. People are surprised that I can actually eat that much. I am 43kgs and 5 feet 1 - petite by any standards.
10. There is NOTHING wrong in smiling at the stranger on the street. It is a beautiful form of acknowledgement.
11. I am believer in good etiquette. People who are courteous and go by decorum, bowl me over.
12. Alaipayuthey is STILL my favourite movie. And, Kanyakumari is in like manner, my most romantic spot.
So, Shalu IS back, I guess. Vaayaadi (a talkative girl, in Tamil), is back. It was another of my father's pet name for me.....
Cheers to happy days ahead. To me, and each and everyone of you.
Take care, God bless.

Ninaika Terintha Maname from Aanantha Jothi
My mind is cluttered. My brain is disorientated. My life is mystifying. I am off balance. Stumped, in other words.....Two days of the long weekend have bade goodbye. I am in the middle of the third day of national holiday. One more to go, tomorrow, And, then, voila - it will be back to square one. Life goes on - per diem.
Something is actually distressing me. I cannot blog about it though. Perhaps, I will - after I sort it out. Fine tuning, at the moment.
With a mega muddled medulla oblongata, no songs come to mind. I want to - badly. Post a good, peepy number that would lift and mount my haywire heart. Still and all, this comes to mind.
You know what ? One of the hardest parts of life is deciding whether to walk away or try harder.....
Go have a HAPPY, HAPPY day. Mine is just around the the corner (I know, for SURE). All I need is patience and the Almighty's warm embrace to keep me holding on.....

Thazhampoove Paasam Veesu from Kai Kodukkum Kai
Looking forward fervently to next weekend - when we, Malaysians get 4 days of national holiday. Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Isn't that great ? It is for me.....The haze has yet to move away. And, due to it, the weather is massively humid. What most of us are wishing for right now, is a heavy downpour. The cat and dog one. The flurry. The rainstorm. Wish it would. Anytime. Without telltales or warning. That would be awesome, in capital letters.
Last Friday was wonderful. Met up with my girl friends for dinner. Had a whale of time despite the burnt hot plate ice cream brownie, which was supposed to be Karaikudi, Penang's dish of the day. We are planning a shopping trip the week after this. Let's see how it goes.
My Thulasi plants are growing steadily. This was planted with love and devotion. And seeing it grow from a tiny tot, thrills me.
Amma has been constantly reminding me about checking on our flight tickets to India, this coming Deepavali. She seems to be far more intent, than me, at times. I am, on the other hand, steadily enthusiastic about India.
I bought a book. Shadows Beneath the Fronds by Paul Callan. A Malaysian Indian love story. I have yet to start but will up keep you all posted, if it is a good read.
This is a beautiful song, yet treated as insignificant. IR. The maestro. His songs are ALL gems.
I am inclined towards these particular lines. Beautifully written, aren't they ??
Have a great week ahead !!! God Bless ........

Oru Kural from Vazhakku Enn 18/9
Howdy ? Life has been as busy as the streets of Schildergasse in Cologne, Germany. The passage passed through by over 17,000 people every hour. Yes - every hour.
I have been joining my beloved sister on shopping sprees for the past two weekends. And, when, I return home, all I want to do is freshen up and hit the bed. I love shopping. Do not doubt that. But, all that driving, walking, glancing, watching, surveying, contemplating and finally, purchasing - takes its toll on you and your wallet (me, in this case) - eventually.
It is Olympics fever everywhere. My abode, included. But, I somehow managed to watch Vazhakku Enn 18/9 despite it all. And, was startled and stunned by what an awesome movie it turned out to be. Expecting an award for this. Balaji Saktivel, the director continues to convince me of his brilliance and ingenuity. The final scene was heart rending. It brought tears to my eyes. The pathos is still lingering on. Just as this song. Karthik has brought life and soul to this song - without help from any musical ensemble.
Watch the movie. The video song is far better than this.....
Have a great week ahead....
Take care, God Bless.

Chandrodayam Oru Pennanatho from Chandrodayam
I can hear the thunder rumbling. I can feel the sweet breeze whiffing. Strangely, the sun is STILL blazing bright. And, thus, rain - remains, hearsay. I hope it will. I want to have a longer than usual cat nap this afternoon - if the weather is good. The bed is cozier when it rains. Right?
Last night I watched "Naan Ee". It turned out to be a great entertainer. The only con, for me, was that I watched it on DVD. This is one that you need to watch in the theaters. For its awesome and convincing graphics, and a very offbeat story line. The fly, the villain - Sudeep (he deserves a standing ovation) and the angelic Samantha have, all, done a great job. Even Nani (and Santhanam), though short while, played their parts convincingly. Don't miss this one. Go watch, if you find the time.
There are lots of Tulsi plants thriving in Amma's garden. I forked them out, roots and all, and have planted them in pots, neatly arranged in our courtyard. They are beautiful, and are my source of inspiration. Tulsi, the holy Basil - the symbol of faithfulness. The symbol of love and devotion. The plant adored by Lord Vishnu and offered to him in every ritual. The Lord I so revere, and who is constantly fulfilling all my wishes.
Chandrodayam Oru Pennanatho ? is a 1966 masterpiece by MSV. Lyrics are by the always young and imaginative Vaali. Sung by TMS and P Suseela for the movie Chandrodayam - this is a stellar. Old songs stay around to tug your heart. This is a good example. It is happy and optimistic.
"நெஞ்சோடு நீ சேர்த்த பொருளல்லவோ?
எந்நாளும் பிரியாத உறவல்லவோ?
அலையோடு பிறவாத கடல் இல்லையே .....
நிழலோடு நடக்காத உடல் இல்லையே.....
துடிக்காத இமையோடு விழியில்லையே.....
துணையோடு சேராத இனமில்லையே.....
என் மேனி உனதன்றி எனதில்லையே....."
Beautifully said, are they not ?????
May God bless all of you. Have a safe and happy week ahead. Life is short. Make the best out of it.....
Stay sweet. See ya !!!
Stay sweet. See ya !!!

Unnai Partha Pinbu from Leelai
My third week of hand washing an entire pail of clothes. I love water - undoubtedly - and hand washing requires monkeying around with plenty of it. But, after three weeks (and only God knows how many more) it is a little exhausting. Sorry - but I have been grumbling about this chore for quite some time now. Finding a space to punch the bag is how I would summarize it. And, I am drawing the curtains now, on this issue. Whether the washing machine gets repaired, replaced, whatever - you will be spared from reading my agonies. Deal ?
I watched "Leelai" last night, with Amma. On Astro's Box Office Channel. It seemed like a big bore when I watched it the first time around. But, it proved me wrong, this time around. It is a good watch. The first hour is a little slow and draggy and annoying at times, but, it gets better in the second half. A full length romantic Tamil movie of recent times. An unexpected story line which ends, with a heart warm.
Also, watched "Aravaan" this afternoon. Again, with Amma and my sister, in tow. Director Vasanthabalan awed me. I did not get up from the couch until the movie ended. It kept me glued, thanks to its brilliant detailing. Sad isn't it ? Great Tamil movies, go by, unheeded, at times. This did not appeal to many. In fact, it was stated as a wasted opportunity.
If you ask me, the Tamil film zealot, as I would like to be called, both the movies mentioned above are sparklers. Do not miss them. Trust me.
The evening weather over here is stunning. Beautiful, blue skies. Patches of white, cotton clouds. Billowing, breeze. Birds flocking over. Trees swaying happily. Nature - in good state.
The wi-fi here, is beyond words. I cannot download anything. Connection gets cut off within seconds. So, I am embedding the song, for now. Will download in proper format, soonest possible.
Till then, take care and have a real wonderful week ahead.

Thendral Katre Konjum Nillu from Eeramana Rojave
These were the lines, I heard, so very clearly, this morning, as it was aired on tv. Hailed to be one great pathos song by Maestro Illayaraja. How beautiful despite it being poignant. Love is a feeling that words will never be able to explain, but this comes pretty close.
The week was slow. A little plain. But the weekend went well. I am glad and thankful to the Almighty God. Appreciation and gratefulness, is always, a great deed. Be it with God, your family, your friends and the people around you.
I have been slowing down on watching Tamil movies. Blame it on lack of time and more important issues. I wish I could find a day to have a Tamil Movie Marathon at home. There are so many that I want to watch but just cannot allot time for. I have the original DVD of Urumi. And Aravaan is playing on pay TV for the next few weeks. So, is Leelai. It was a horrible first sight with the latter. Watched it for the first 30 minutes or so, and found it bland and flat. Unfortunately, caught a glimpse of a few scenes while it played on pay TV, and found it rather, hmmm, pleasing. I am giving it another shot - one of these days.
Monday knocks in tomorrow. I can hear plenty of grouse and grumble. Me included. Why does the weekend fly and the weekday seem like forever. A colleague told me that there is no such thing as Monday blues. Tuesday Trepidation, rather. Monday is the day after two days of rest, so the body is still in relaxed mode. It is the day after that taints the thoughts. Whatever, but I do NOT like Mondays. On most occasions. Fridays are my favourite.
The washing machine has not been repaired. The technician is too busy to make a visit to my home. Argh ! So, it was hand washing, this morning, too. One week was fine. Playing with water and all that. But two, is a little tiring.
Signing off, for now. Will be back next weekend.
Take care. God Bless.

Enthan Uyire - A Special Dedication
And finally, I guess I have found courage. To post - a piece of my heart. But not enough, to tell him in person or via mail.....
Dedicated, from the depth of my heart.
The one who I accept, with all my heart.....
The one who I accept, with all my heart.....
The one whom I wish, Appa was around to meet.....
The one I feel completely, safe with..... and want to be with - at all times.
Thanks for that heart stopping smile - every time I look at you.
For remaining virtuous and ethical.
And above all, for being a part of my life.....
Thanks for that heart stopping smile - every time I look at you.
For remaining virtuous and ethical.
And above all, for being a part of my life.....
This song is for you.
May God bless us, and this beautiful relationship..... forever.
The things I so want to do - with you :-

May God bless us, and this beautiful relationship..... forever.
The things I so want to do - with you :-
- Wake up by your side.
- Go to the temple after sunrise.
- Morning walk. Hand in hand.
- Cook together.
- Have breakfast - at home.
- An afternoon movie date.
- Clean up the house.
- Evening prayers at home - with you right beside me.
- Go to the garden.
- Share the cycle.
- Walking hand in hand.
- Ride the swing.
- Eat ice creams.
- Walk in the rain - if it does.
- Watch the sunset.
- High tea at Starbucks.
- Hug you real strong.
- Feel your heartbeat.
- Whisper in your ears what I adore about you.
- Sing to you.
- Take you to dinner.
- Watch a romantic DVD at home.
- Listen to my favourite song with you - in the dark. Maalai Mangum Neram from Rowthiram.
- Dance together.
- Stargazing.
- Stay up very late into the night - just talking.
- Have pillow fights.
- Watch you sleep with your head on my lap.
- Cuddle until we both fall asleep.
- Leave a note in your bag pack telling you how much I will miss you - when we are not together.
- And the list, as everyone says, goes on.....

Antha Sivagami from Pattanathil Bootham
Went to bed, very much earlier, than my usual Fridays.
I enjoy Friday nights. Lots. They assure me a certain level of tranquility after 5 days of frenzy. I snoozed around 12am. And, woke up at 4.45am this morning, as fresh as a daisy. No - I did not get up right away, but spent an hour and a half, rolling on the bed, enjoying the breezy Saturday morning.
Today is Ekadasi, and I am fasting. I do not consume solid food until sunset. I have been doing this for some months now. For the Lord Vishnu, I so revere and love. He gives me everything I ask for. And, this is how I thank him. A miniscule from a mortal, as I would put it.
The washing machine is faulty. Has been for a week now. So, I did all the laundry by hand. Getting drenched in cold water, for the sake of clean clothes, was a nice change.
My sister and I are planning to hit the island for breakfast and a mini shopping trip tomorrow. We plan to come home early. By lunch, at least. Sunday is after all, the day before the manic one. Most of us just want to spend, enjoying the remaining hours. Me, too.
And, ya, Spain and Italy are playing against each other for the EuroCup. I lost my bet when Germany fell short at the semi's. Now, I am vouching for Spain, to win the coveted title. I hope I will be able to drag myself from bed around 2.45am Malaysian time, to watch the finals. I am no fan of football, but it is the finals, and perhaps I should.
Manam Kothi Paravai starring Sivakartikeyan was a good one. At least for me. I know it had many illogical points, but it was done in moderate taste. A family watch, definitely.
The song that I posting today is a repost. I cannot seem to find the YouTube clip that I uploaded. Such a waste. This number is a gem. One that will warm your heart and breeze your soul. Really. Take some time to listen to it if you have not.....
I will send you around on today, after the witching hour. A post that I need to publish is still crawling for courage. I hope I find it in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Take care. God Bless.
Shalu is signing off with a smile - thanks to a sentimentally sweet Friday.

Yeno En Idhayam from Raatinam
Hello everyone !!!!!
Time flies. As fast as lightning. How else do you illustrate the fact that June is about to end. Six months more to go, and, voila, the year will call it a day.
After months, I finally managed that long due trip to my regular hairdresser. Was seriously thinking of getting a shoulder length bob, but ended up retaining my current-5-inches-from-the-shoulder length. My stylist coaxed me into it. She said my hair is healthy and does not need snipping at the moment.....
The week went so-so. There were days which were super busy, and there were days which were downright idle.
Right now, I wish I could go for a holiday. Don't all of us do ? You know, the ones that just allow you to rejuvenate and unwind..... I am in desperate need of one. An island getaway would be perfect just as would a weekend stopover at my favourite Singaara Chennai. I love Chennai. The hustle and bustle of the capital of Tamil Nadu awes me..... Many people call me weird, for liking Chennai, of all the Indian cities, but, hey, that is me. I love Chennai as much as a born and bred Chennaite would. The city which has immaculate wavelength with me. Murugan's Idli comes to mind, right now. A hot dosa and a cup of Madras filter coffee would be ideal.....
I am still in the process of composing and posting that very special post that I have been puffing about these past few weeks. It should come in next week - hopefully. I am in the midst of finding courage. And spirit and spunk.
This is a new number but one that I truly find, appealing. Haricharan on the sentimental part and Navin Iyer on the rap like one. Bowled by the lyrics and the no hassle melody. I have yet to watch the movie but a friend of mine, who reviews Tamil movies, wrote that it is recommendable one.
I love Tamil movies. Good ones. I do not need big names and huge budgets. Something that makes me proud. That's about it. Like a few that I managed to watch (again) recently. Kannathil Muthamittal. Angadi Theru. Veppam. Azhagar Saamiyin Kuthirai. Drohi. I have yet to finish Manam Kothi Paravai but it has been a wonderful watch as at now. Plan to finish it before Saturday ends.
Going to have my dinner now. I rarely take them this late, but my breadbasket is rumbling Spanish.
Take care. God Bless. Good nitezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

Taana Vantha Santhaname from Ooru Vittu Ooru Vanthu
Raagamaliga is an excellent singing talent show. Something that I look forward to at 11am on Sunday mornings - with a cup of hot Milo and whatever there is for breakfast.
I have never (n-e-v-e-r) been a fan of Ramarajan but do not deny that practically all his movies has super hit songs. And, he was a prominent actor (flashy, psychedelic clothes, red hot lipstick and all.....) back then in the 80's. My song for today's post come from one of his famous films titled Ooru Vittu Ooru Vanthu with the great IR being its music director.
It was Night Romantic Duet round in Raagamaliga today, and an awesome couple sang this amorous number. They sung so well that Uma Ramanan-Ji and Manicka Vinayagam-Sir gave them a standing ovation.
I drooled over the song for these particular lines.....
A little (more than little, actually.....) suggestive, but expressive lines indeed. Note that I am still sticking to virtuousness, as the lyrics are indirect, and require the mind some reasoning. Unlike the many songs of present times which sound sleazy, if given lyrics similar to the one mentioned above.
Shalu is signing off. Want to make that vanilla cake and a simple chilled pudding.....
Have a blessed week ahead, ya !!!!!
Keep smiling even when everything seems haywire..... Life is never a bed of roses.....
God bless!!!!!

Un Azhagai Kanniyargal Sonnathinaale from Uthama Puthiran (1958)
Love is - sardanapalian. Haha. I bet you did not know what that 13 lettered word means. Neither did I, until a few minutes ago. Was flipping through reference.com and this is the word of the day. And, and, it refers to excessively luxurious. Hmm... it calls for a deep thought, doesn't it ? But, I insist, love is. Excessively luxurious. Sardanapalian. Getting some genius of a scientist to give you the opportunity to walk on air (as love, would), is NOT going to be cheap. Agree ????
Today was somewhat a well spent Saturday. Got many things done. Sunday, to complete the stuff I did not manage. Was supposed to make an eggless vanilla cake. Reserving it for tomorrow. Not procrastinating. Believe tomorrow would be a better day to make it. Wink, wink.
I have two DVD's in hand. "Manam Kothi Paravai" and " Vazhakku Enn 18/9". Planning to watch it later in the night. The second received rave reviews. The first, has three songs that I so love to listen. Guess, it will be Me-Myself-And-I Movie Marathon at home tonight.
Downloaded a couple of new songs. The wifi is revolting. Transferring a single song takes approximately 15 minutes. 15 minutes, yeah, as in 900 seconds. Pathetic, isn't it ? But, it is not always like this. Certain days, when the usage is high, this happens. On most others, the internet connection is fairly good.
Looking forward to a shopping trip, next weekend, with my darling sister. It has been more than a month since we went out together. Shopping is immensely therapeutic. I profess that. Having more clothes, shoes, bags and accessories, more than a girl should ACTUALLY have, is all accomplishing. Ask any female species, and she will nod her head.
I miss India. Crazily. Browsed through flight tickets for end of August 2012. A few days, for the time being, would curb the yearning. A short visit before the intended long Deepavali trip would be super cool.
Have been realizing that YouTube has been removing many videos. And, thus, lots of my posts have songs missing. Sad isn't it? Especially when, they are awesome numbers, that you forget and are reminded out of the blue..... So, starting from today, I am going to post songs in video format and not just embed them from YouTube. It will be sheer waste when you do not get to listen to songs you googled for. Right ?
It is going to take a little longer to upload, but I will be fine, I believe.
Hmmm.... what else????
11.10pm over here. The post that I want to dedicate to that wonderful guy who colours my life with gerberas and perfumes them with lavendars... (he makes me poet, as well.....) is still in the making. I promise to get it done soon..... and, yes, with everything beautiful going on in our lives, I want to e-mail him a copy of it as well.....
I am presently watching the Sandai Kozhi song from Aayutha Ezhuthu HD video on YouTube, and find it just so, so, so romantic..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBz7iz74FEI
Good night. Sweet dreams. God Bless.....

Solli Teriyathu from Kalyaniyin Kanavan
On June 7th 2012, rediff.com listed Denmark as the happiest country in the world, with a life satisfaction score at 7.8. So, "Hej". And, "Goddag". Both, meaning "Hello" in Danish. I am back. Bouncy and beaming.....
Work has been hectic - in capital letters. I rarely get the opportunity to day dream - for even a few minutes - which is actually a blessing in disguise.
Woke up a little later than my usual Saturdays. Around 8.15 am. Pretty early for many. I cannot sleep for long, in the mornings. A mild headache friends me, if I do.
Had a huge breakfast. And, continued the morning, chatting with my darling mother on this and that. Also managed to get some household chores and light gardening done.
The evening was cloudy. A good change. It has been raining cats and dogs - practically every day over here. Got a handful of jasmines. And, chanced upon a baby Thulasi plant - growing in Amma's garden. An auspicious finding, to me. That too, on a Saturday - the day of my revered Lord Tirupathi.
Life has returned to normalcy. I am glad.....
I am actually in the midst of chalking a new post. A truly, heartfelt one. It is going to take some time - but post I shall. Especially now, that I am at a loss - vocally, but all schmaltzy, emotionally..... (I am laughing out loud, as these words hit the screen.....)
This sweet sappy number is a soother. Enjoy - the song, the day, the minutes, the God given life, the sweet memories, the everything good.....
See ya around......

Nanbaney from Mankatha
My favourite poem by Browning. The one on love. The one many people assume is Shakespeare's.
I am lacking - in words and in enthusiasm.....
Bear with me, and give me some time. I will be back soon. Bouncing buoyantly. Happily and heartily. Optimism is just close at hand. And, I know God and Appa are close by, watching me over.....
The song playing not only on my I-Pod but in my heart as well.....
Take care, God Bless.....
