Sunday is here. So fast. It was just like Friday evening, a few hours ago. Time passes. That is why they say so, I guess. Now, I need to start longing for the next Friday evening.
My father raised me by singing lots of beautiful, Tamil songs. I loved them, then, and still do, now. I guess, I owe him one. I owe him lots, actually -for everything. He is what I am today. And, despite him not being around, everything good I do, is an acclamation to him. He is my thoughts all the time.
If I can actually appreciate this En Uyir Thozhi song from the 1964 release, Karnan, like so many other old songs enthusiasts, then I have no one, but my father, to thank. He instilled my passion for old Tamil songs and movies, and the beautiful ancient language, itself.
This song is beautiful. Just like my father. He was beautiful - in heart, soul and all. He still is, to me. Forever, will be. Not a second passes by without me missing him. He lives in my heart and will do so forever. Love you, my darling Appa. God bless you soul.

Kangale Kamalalayam from Bale Pandiya
Sometimes, a song you hear on the radio, out of the blue, can make you sit up, and wonder, how it went unnoticed, to music enthusiasts. This is what this song practically did, to me. I thought it was soothing, soft and sentimental. And, with an eagle eye over its lyrics, I confirmed this as the song I would like to post, next.

I am as sleepy as a koala. As a koala ? How long do these animals actually sleep ? Googling for information, as I write my post of the day.
OMG. Oh My God. The details just surprised me. My eyes are popping out, and my sleepy koala has since migrated to Alaska. They sleep an average of 22 hours a day. And, there is only 24 hours, in one. Why wake up for the remaining two? They could just continue and be in hibernation, right? Hahaha. Whatever. God bless Koalas. They are becoming extinct, despite all that sleep...The lines above are from my present favourite number. The song I am listening to right now.
I turned around to catch him looking at me, with his all-so-famous grin. Twice. And, both were intense and empowering moments.
Today turned out brilliantly. I thank God for everything he is blessing me with.
And, even this moment, when happiness fills my heart to the brim, there are two things which I so miss - very much. My father. And, my India. Wish my father was around. Wish India was nearer. Wishes - they never end, do they?
Friday comes tomorrow. Looking forward to some unwinding and lots of housekeeping.

Oru Pennai Paarthu from Anbey Vaa
This morning I watched episode 391 of Raagamaliga. Haricharan sang this number, and he was just mind blowing. I am embarrassed and stunned that it took me 45 years to actually appreciate this number. Haricharan called this jive music. I would like to call it happy music. The music and the meaningful lyrics just go hand in hand. Unfortunately, and yet again, this is the male version. A female one would have been perfect. The exact song I would choose to sing to him - in the heavy rain, hopping and jiving along the beach pavement. Sounds like some old Tamil movie. Well, what else do you get from a faithful, Tamil movie buff like yours truly ?

Today is Saturday. And this, was another special, significant one. SPB, SP Charan and Prashantini 's awesome love duet, Ayayo Nenju Alayuthadi, is what plays on my mind, heart and soul - all the time. It is such a dreamy number. So love this song, that this is all I hum, whenever, whatever. It brings a smile, a chill to the heart and a breeze to the soul.
He says good morning. He says he was wondering how come I have yet to call. He sounds genuine. It sounds beautiful. Just like my current favourite song. I fall back asleep. It feels like a dream. It happened for real and yet it seems like a dream.

Unnai Ninaikavey from Jay Jay
Been missing my dad, lots, of lately. Lots. I do not know why. But he is my thoughts, more often. More often, than ever. Sometimes, I think of the times we used to spend together. At others, I cry myself over all those beautiful memories, we shared, while he was still around. It has been 22 years now. Since that dreadful 3rd September 1990. So many years have passed, but memories of Appa flood me all the time. I was, indeed, the apple of his eye. Was his darling Kannamah. I, was, practically, everything - to him. I do not have any doubt on that. He adored me heaps. I still believe he does - from up above, amongst those heavenly clouds. His love keeps me going. It always will.
Today was beautiful. It will be long remembered. Imprinted in my heart. My second Valentine’s Day. Ya. He continues to make me smile. I am, currently, listening, to my all time favourite, Enthan Uyire from Unnarage Naan Irunthaal. Such a sentimental number. Mind blowing lyrics. I love this song. This is practically what I would like to tell him. Really. Anyone's heart would melt to this one. Again, really.
Appa... I wish you were around. Everything would have been rosier. Minus the thorns. I am sure you would have liked him. He makes me very happy. Just like what you did. And still do, with the memories you have left behind. I laugh at practically everything he says. No, I do not make them up. Those barrels of laughter. I really do. Wholeheartedly. Naturally. Some songs just catch you by surprise. They do not become mega hits. They do not appeal to the mass. And, yet, they bolt and buckle you, - somehow. This is what the song that I am posting today, did to me. I was just browsing through some current songs, and this tunefulness made me a fan. Like the soft harmony and the simple Tamil lyrics. A good listen when all you want to do is off the lights, roll on the bed, and hug the pillow for warmth - and smile, secretly, over those sweet memories, that flood you.
I was supposed to watch Thoonga Nagaram while I was in Madurai, but couldn't. The title of the movie, does refer to this famous Temple City, after all. Tried to, again, while I was in Chennai, and failed, the second time, around, as well. Right now, back in Malaysia, I am waiting for the original DVD.
It is a Sunday afternoon. Hot and sunny. Chennai would be the same right now. My Chennai. Just two and a half hours behind. That's all. My metropolitan city would be bustling with life. I miss her. Very much. The affinity I share for this city is mystifying. It must have to do something with my past life. Sure, of that, though. I am, unashamedly, crazy, crazy about Chennai, Tamil Nadu and India - in that exact order. No European cities for me. I am, all Indian.

Saturdays. When, the first thing that I hear, is that, deep, throaty, husky, all so romantic "Good Morning ". Same today. This morning, I realized something new. That he is comical. He was. Day 1
He takes the holy ash from my palms. Even his finger nails do not brush me. I am startled. Taken aback. How purely sweet. How genuinely beautiful. He scores 10 for Day 1.
Day 2
A state holiday comes next. Jams are just waiting to start. In fact, they have started in some places. Public transportation is going to be a mess. It may take hours to reach home. A female colleague from hometown drove her two wheeler, this morning. She asks me to follow. I am unsure. But the invitation is a good way for me to not get caught in the holiday hustle. He calls. I ask him for an extra headgear. He asks, why. I explain. He responds immediately and persuasively, not to. He says it will be dangerous. He advises. He urges. And convinces. I tell him I won't. He can take my word. He actually called to send me lunch. Vegetarian. Sweet. He scores another 10 for Day 2.
Day 3
The Pandi Bazaar roads are brimming with autos, cars, bicycles, buses and every mode of transportation you can imagine. Mum is walking beside me. The sound of horns are abundant. Chennai is always like that. He calls. He talks. He goes into silent mode. Then, as sweet and slow, as the cool sea breeze, he wishes me. He was building up courage, I guess. Siberian cold weather embraces my blazing hot Chennai. Nice. Again sweet. Sweeter than all those toothsome stuff in Krisha Sweets and Adyar Ananda Bhawan's. It was Valentine's. And, he scored a big 10 - again.
Moral of story
He is making grades. Gradually. Hahaha. Sounds like some school report.

I cracked open a love cookie at Horoscope.Com, and that is what it said. Oh, ya. What news. I mean, what information. I have loads of work to do. But am feeling all restless and edgy. Nothing to blame this mood swing on. We all have those days, do not we? When, all you want to do is, go to the quieter part of the beach, lie on a large towel spread on the silky soft sand with the cool continuous breeze sweeping on you, gaze at the blue skies and the cotton clouds, and listen to the waves symphony you to slumber land. Hmm. Sounds lovely. Wish I could get up and drag myself there, right now. Wishful thinking. Work. Lots of them. All pending and delayed.

Ya. Silence breaks the heart. Doesn't it? I am appeasing myself with Othasollala song from Aadukalam. It makes me happy. I tap my feet to the catchy rhythm. My ear plugs are on full blast. It keeps my thoughts on the video clip of the movie, and the level of immense happiness Dhanush @ K.P.Karuppu was in. Cool. Saturday here. And, in Chennai. I miss her. Tremendously. She is just bustling and lively. The metropolitan city that never sleeps. And, miss too, the rest of Tamil Nadu, and the country where my soul STILL and ACTUALLY resides. I have chores to do. And, here I am, in front of my faithful notebook, listening to songs and updating my blog. I wish a million things.
This is such a melancholic song. Not really for a zealot like me. But, something about it caught my attention. No. Definitely not the video. The simple melody, I guess. Hum worthy. Ya. Silence breaks the heart. Doesn't it? I am appeasing myself with Othasollala song from Aadukalam. It makes me happy. I tap my feet to the catchy rhythm. My ear plugs are on full blast. It keeps my thoughts on the video clip of the movie, and the level of immense happiness Dhanush @ K.P.Karuppu was in. Cool. Saturday here. And, in Chennai. I miss her. Tremendously. She is just bustling and lively. The metropolitan city that never sleeps. And, miss too, the rest of Tamil Nadu, and the country where my soul STILL and ACTUALLY resides. I have chores to do. And, here I am, in front of my faithful notebook, listening to songs and updating my blog. I wish a million things.
This is such a melancholic song. Not really for a zealot like me. But, something about it caught my attention. No. Definitely not the video. The simple melody, I guess. Hum worthy. Is that a new word? I meant to say, it is worth the hum. Haha. Sad though, that both the hero and the heroine are no more. May they rest in peace.

It is official. My Valentine's Day 2011 - was legitimately celebrated on 21st February 2011, a beautiful Monday evening. What transpired on 14th February 2011, was a verbal inauguration. Guess, I wrote about it, in my last post.
I do not have words to describe how beautiful the day turned out to be. It, was, just heavenly. And sweet, and stirring. I am back. On Malaysian soil. And, yes, I AM missing India.
I am listening to this beautiful number by SPB and P.Susheela. Picked it up during a concert by the legendary SPB himself on Valentine's eve, in Chennai. The female part was sung by someone else. This song is mischievous and playful.
Coming back to V-Day. I am smiling. 11.13am, Indian time. 1.43pm Malaysian. My mobile rings "Kannil Anbai" song from Eesan. My heart skips a beat. I am hoping but unsure. I read my caller ID. My heart skips a few more beats. I am beaming in delight. Cupid strikes me in Chennai. How sweet. How winsome. As I answer the phone, this is what transpires, (mostly in Tamil......)
Me : Hello
He : Vanakam. (The Tamil equivalent to Hello in English)
Me : Vanakam. (Chiming him, in Tamil) So, how are you ?
He : I am fine. You ?
Me : Fine.
He : Tried calling you the other day but could not get through.
Me : Ya. My brother complained of the same issue too.
There is pin drop silence. He is quiet for a few seconds. I am dumbfounded. Then,......
He : Happy Valentine's Day.
Me : (laughing) Thanks.... (again, pin drop silence from my side). Same to you.
And, quickly, we change topic. To Chennai, and work, and Malaysia, and my return dates. We hang up about 5 minutes later.
He calls in the afternoon, again. 4.38pm Indian. We exchange formal conversations. Beautiful. Right then, I disconnected the call with a smile in my heart. Now, recollecting that moment, I am smiling to the lyrics of this song.

R & R - 30th January 2011 to 20th February 2011 - Yaarathu Yaarathu from Koodal Nagar
Yup... Time for some R& R. Rest and Recuperation. Don't we all need them. Somnolence is a necessity. I am off to India. Again ? Ya. Again. I am just enamoured by her. She swept me off my feet. Still does. This time round, it is more of a non-devotional trip. We are visiting museums, palaces, gardens, hill resorts, historical sites and art galleries. Even an overnight stay on the famous Cochin Boathouse.....

Neethana Neethana from Sarvam
I swear. He has eyes that drown me in delight. And the most promising smile you can ever imagine. On the 24th, he sat across me, but chose to talk to me over the mobile. Very charming. A total knock out. Yours truly is still reeling from it.
He swept me off my feet, again, on the 26th. He has been doing it quiet often, that I am practically walking on air, on most days, now.
Again, it was a notable Saturday morning. Waking up to his voice is enduring. He has an immense sense of humour - at such an early hour.
This time, tomorrow, I will be in the land where my soul resides. India. Vacation begins approximately in another 20 hours or so. I am all accelerated. Despite the numerous trips.

I adore this song. Heaps. It is my caller ring tone. They have, both, male and female version. My favourite, is of course, the latter. Rain. Something that I am so attached to. Of lately. Rain. We hit off, on one. September 29th 2010. Recap - my post that particular day. We have come a long way since that significant day. Lunch - was approximately 44 minutes of verbal bliss. The other day, it was IR. Today, it was Chandrababu. The legendary Chandrababu. I was in a state of amazement. Still am. To know that someone from the present generation knows and adores Chandrababu, is astounding. So few do. I am one of them. So is he. How flattering.

For starters, I am hooked and zealous over that Otha Sollala song from Aadukalam. All, despite infinite numbers of replay. I cannot get enough of this song. I am still in a state of amazement. A 'kuthu' song and me? If you had asked me before, I would have summed it up in one word. Conflicting. As opposite as black and white, as fire and water, as light and darkness. As opposite as the poles. Contre-coeur. Now, after Aadukalam, all that is history. I am an avid fan of this song. This 'kuthu' song. And, I know that, this particular song, is going to be a huge hit this year. And, it is surely going to intoxicate a whole lot of people.

This is what Paulo Coelho said. How true.... Waiting is painful. No doubt about that. Forgetting is arduous. Both are distressing and unpleasant. But, not knowing what to do, is definitely, and ultimately the most mentally agonizing and exhausting.
Tomorrow is Ponggal. So, I am keeping my fingers crossed. Let me be an optimist. Ponggal is associated with remuneration and surplus.

This morning, I woke up to his voice. The husky, deep but nectarous, crack of the dawn voice. How exhilarating. 13 minutes and 46 seconds on the mobile is parallel to a trip to paradise. I am agile, but intoxicated. And, that weird, jubilant feeling is very much around.
I am walking on air. I am vivacious and all zippy. In the same degree of this song. I swear, I would never have been able to associate myself to this song, on any other day. But, today, has been a far cry from the rest. This song has been on replay mode, and extended in time. Me ? Such a song ? No chance. At least, that is what I have always thought. The combination of Velmurugan's singing and GV Prakash's music arrangement, for Dhanush's much awaited Aadukalam, just proved me wrong. So wrong. I love this song.
I am shamelessly crazy about this song. Listening to it for the 28th time, now. This song swept me off my feet, just like Mogan. It reminds me of him, and tells what all I want to tell the world, when I get all euphoric and delirious - thanks to him.

Engengey Nee Sendra Bothum from Ninaika Terindha Maname.
Watched Eesan during the weekend, and cannot stop but eulogize and salute Sasikumar and Samudrakani for their bold and unabashed storyline. However, it is rather disheartening to read that this movie did not fascinate the Indian audience. How daunting. But, there are, many out there, who have appreciated their effort and servitude. I am one.
The first half of the movie touches on the pros and cons of politics. Affairs of the state. The lives of politicians and their family, the extents they go to, the power they so almost abuse, and the night life of the rich in Chennai - something rarely exposed in Tamil movies. The unmasking was very actual. It is the thrill of where the movie is actually heading to, that makes you inquisitive. And, you will have to wait for a quick but never dragging, one hour and forty minutes or so, before, the real story begins. That style itself needs an applaud.
Second half of the story is regale. And, not to mention tear jerking and at times, antagonizing. But, in the end, you will be pleased as punch. Eesan is a good, appeasing Tamil movie of recent times. Do watch, especially if you are an avant-garde.
Special mention to Sasikumar, Samudrakani, Vaibhav Reddy and the gorgeous Abinaya. And, James Vasantham, for the beautiful Kannil Anbil song.

January 1st 2011 to January 8th 2011 has been just, heavenly. That silly but shining smirk is still very much annexed on my face. Thank Him and him, for that.
He makes me schmaltzy. All mushy and feminine. He amuses me. When, he is around, he makes me laugh. When he isn't, he makes me smile. I am rearing butterflies in my stomach. My heart does somersaults every now and then. My knees seem weak and knotted. I am radiating, 20 times more than sea level. On the whole, I feel like an Olive Oly gushing over her Popeye.
This song used to be something that I listened to, 24-7, when its audio was first released. Spine tingling lyrics, and good music, in one. It is timely that I listen to it now.

My heart does somersaults every now and then. My knees seem weak and knotted. I am radiating, 20 times more than sea level. On the whole, I feel like an Olive Oly gushing over her Popeye.
This song used to be something that I listened to, 24-7, when its audio was first released. Spine tingling lyrics, and good music, in one. It is timely that I listen to it now.

2010 was good. I pray 2011, will be better. Not just for me, but for everyone.
I am starting my first post in 2011, with a picture of my Lord Thirupathi. For Him - a lamp lit, with hope, a rose blooming, with faith, and sweets, with love. This was on the very aspicious and equally memorable Vaikunda Ekaathasi day. December 17th 2010. A Friday. That day, also scores, a 10/10, for me. Thanks to Him. For everything He has given me.

I was browsing through some new songs online, when I heard the one I am posting today. It is such a peppy number, that you will get hooked on it, right away. Nice. Angum Ingum from Avargal
What-ta song... That is exactly what I thought when I heard it this morning. SPB-Ji just tugs and toils your heart, in this one. And, intense lyrics - that just blow your mind away. Call me an ancient radio that keeps replaying oldies, I care, not. But I am adamant. Only Tamil language is able to convey feelings in such detail. The read in between the lines are so downright romantic. If you have come to this page, I hope you will enjoy this song as much as I did. It is such a gem.

It has been more than 10 days since my last post. I wanted to, some time back last week - especially with those lovey dovey things that happening in my life. Sadly, been a little tired and worn out than ever. Thanks to the festive season and my year end laziness. I just realized that it is so much easier to blame it on everything else but ourselves. Minus the hassle of trying to sort things out. I just did that. Forgive me, but why worry, this is the time to be jolly, and usher in a new year. A new resolution. A new beginning.
I promise, to write this weekend. Lots. Lots. I need to shout to the world about all my beautiful nothings. The stolen smiles, the gazes, the read in between the lines, the IR-KJY orchestra combo that keeps playing background music during those precious moments.
In fact, I am playing with the idea of a new blog, come 2011. Musings of yours truly. But, keeping up one blog is tiring enough. Imagine trying to juggle another.
I love this song. I think James Vasanthan did a wonderful job, keeping it simple but memorable. And such, heartwarming lyrics. Love does need to be elaborate and grand. Plain but pure, is more of what it actually is.

I share that with you. Short, beautiful, happy, joyous conversations. Never mind that they do not last long. They leave a mark, deep and extending, and fathomless. There replay on mind, when there is too much of time on my hand. Novel without falsehood. I like that the most, because, that is exactly what they are. Our conversations. We are ourselves. What more can I ask for. I still remember November 16th 2010. It is etched deep in my heart. There were nine altogether. Nine sweet conversations. In a day. Just reminiscing over it today, makes me ecstatic. Like I am flying on cloud nine. What is this feeling ? I have suddenly become intrigued by everything around me.
From 2:06, this video clip is a like my favourite song. I want to listen to it again and again. Apuraam, meaning "what then?" in Tamil, has become a landmark in our conversations. We have said that word so many times, and laughed over it.
I am posting the video first, and the song second. Enjoy both, as I did.

I am smiling. Once again. This song is mind blowing. And, the movie, should be applauded, as well. A good watch, on a rainy day, with a cup of filter coffee and some piping hot potato bajji. I miss India. And, Chennai. On most days, it feels like I have left my soul there. And, I am counting seconds and minutes like some smitten school girl who longs for school to reopen so that she gets to see her knight in shining armour, or rather, a fellow school boy in his uniform. India, is, about another 50 days away. Right now, that 50 days seems like 50 years ahead.

This is such an awesome number. Beautifully and magically sung by the great PB Srinivas for the film Ramu. Heart rending lyrics by the one and only Kaviarasu Kannadasan with music by genius, MS Viswanathan. This was a movie by AVM Productions, released in 1967.
Present day. 43 years, later. This song still mesmerizes everyone who listens to it. Old songs will always be gems. This will surely appeal and enthrall people from all walks of life. Sad though, that the video song ends abruptly. A wonder of a song.........

Yaar Intha Pennthan from Boss Engira Baskaran
Watched this movie about a month ago. Jeeva made a cameo appearance, so how can I not mention the movie. A love comedy. Something like Siva Manasula Sakthi, although not as good, in my perception. But, this particular song rocks. It is a surprise that it did not become a huge hit.

My vacation to India starts somewhere in late January 2011, and I am all so excited. India is where my soul is. Despite the numerous visits, I cannot seem to get enough of her. She is the most beautiful place in the world. With the warmest of people and the most beautiful of temples. Counting days, and keeping fingers crossed.

The turn of events have been simply amazing. Flourishing, by the day. At times, I swear, I am walking on air. I have knots in my stomach. My mind goes haywire. And, I smile, for no apparent reason. And, and, did I mention about my state of constantly reminiscing.
Love is beautiful. So beautiful that everything around will too, when you are caught in it. Our conversations are short but with huge momentum. Sweetly significant. Constantly chiming. I have the rain, to thank. For everything.
My heart rate is in super duper fast tachycardia mode. Tachycardia means over 100 beats per minute. So, imagine super duper. And, the halo above my head, is shining far brighter than gold.

Kanna Karumai Nira Kanna from Naanum Oru Penn
It is drizzling outside, and I can already smell the freshness of earth. Nature is so beautiful. If only we appreciated it more often. The drizzle has since turned into a heavy pour, and I can hear its rhythmic pats on my roof. Nice. I am smiling.
Relationships are an asset, if you know how to take good care of them. They are, long term investments. But, the trail towards achieving a good one is not easy. Lots of compassion is needed. And, a bit of everything else. It's a potpourri.
My stereo is playing Pookal Pookum from Madrasapattinam. Ya. Yet again. I cannot seem to get enough of this song. It is so lovely. So pure. So soothing. And, the song was fitted well in the movie.
It is raining cats and dogs now. Heard over Makkal News that is is raining the same in India. Tamil Nadu, to be precise. It rained while I was in Chidambaram. Heavy, heavy rain. And, I miss India. Miss her so much, if I had wings, I would have flown there, right away. Forget the rain. I would move mountains and wade through oceans to be on my beloved Indian grounds. Approximately two months away, and my heart is leaping to go right now. Already.
Old songs are evergreen. This one is still soothing, despite the years. I thank my Appa for teaching me to appreciate old Tamil songs. They are gems. This one is, too. Listen.
